Trail Description 80+ miles of trails in the Winding Stair Recreational Area in the Ouchita National Forest in southeastern Oklahoma. Trails are very well marked and some can be challenging and most are very rocky. This place is beautiful and would take a whole week to ride all the trails.
Best Time to Visit Spring and Early summer or Fall
Times to Avoid Winter as it can get somewhat cold
Campground Campground couldn't be better. 19 campsites with electric & water hookups (icludes double sites). 5 accessible campsites electric & water hookups. 30 campsites with centrally located water (includes three double sites). 75 primitive campsites without picnic tables and camp rings. 2 restrooms with fush toilets and warm water showers. 2 picnic pavilions (reservable by calling the District Ranger @ 918-653-2991). 3 horse washracks. Most campsites have a picnic table, fire ring, cook grill, lantern pole picket poles and food preparation table.

 Easy
(Gently sloping or level terrain; trails are groomed or wide open; shallow or no creek crossings. ) 
 More Difficult (Moderate hills over consistent surface; possibly some narrow trails and short steeper slopes) 
 Rigorous (Easy to More Difficult for rider but physically challenging for horse such as on a level surface through deep sand) 
 Challenging (Possible rocky, uneven surface, steep slopes, uncleared trails, faster flowing streams and other obstacles that lead to more difficult riding for rider and horse)
