Trail Description Firm sand with a few areas of deep sand. Bridge options over river and creeks. A lot of variety from oak savannah, pine forests, river ridges, and mixed hardwood forests. No shoes needed. Longest trail is 22 miles, limited water access on the majority of this route. Most trails interconnect so can vary routes. Local bar and grill (Wolf Creek) is very horse friendly with plentiful tie spaces. In most areas can ride two abreast, but there are several miles of narrow trails, primarily on the river ridge. Rate Trails: Moderate Difficulty (due to some narrow trails, steeper climbs with deep sand, wooden bridges with no sides). Most of the trials are easy.
Best Time to Visit Spring and Fall
Times to Avoid Forest employee told us bugs can be a problem in the summer
Campground Water, bathrooms, and manure pits in multiple locations. Sites are graveled and level, with plentiful tie-lines, fire rings, and picnic tables. One - three sites grouped together, roomy and relatively private. Bathrooms are very clean. Firewood must be local (20 mile max) but is available for purchase. Campground is designated for horse camping in spring and fall; mid-summer and during the winter, it is also open to other campers.
