We LOVED LOVED LOVED our trip to the Sand Dunes! Great sandy trails, beautiful trees. Someone even told us a way to get to KJ's Refuge (local bar & grill) though the trails (although we had to ride along a highway for the final leg of the journey). It's so close to the cities. Our group has been to Zumbro, Tamarak, The Barrens, etc., etc., and this was our favorite place. While the trails are "easy" we felt more comfortable galloping through the woods. It's great if you have a wide variety of riding skills in your group. Those dang burrs, though, sure hurt! But we will be back anyway!

I ride the Sand Dunes daily as I board near the park. I too am very frustrated with the number of times my ride has been ruined by people illegally shooting guns or by kids playing paint ball. I have called the sheriff on numerous occasions. The trails are wide and sandy for the most part. Due to the rain this year I have not encountered any sand burrs. My black lab comes with on every ride! Overall a great, quiet place to ride!

I love riding here except when I come upon guys hunting. There should be NO HUNTING allowed where there are people walking and horsebackriding. The guys are usually creepy and seem mad that I am even there. What is up with this??? The trails are very poorly marked but great to ride along on. I highly recommend riding with a partner and marking the trail yourself with ribbons on trees so as not to get lost. Parking areas should be bigger so more folks can use the trails at the same time.

We just got home from the sand dunes. SAND BURRS SAND BURRS SAND BURRS!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF a person has dogs this is a very bad place to take them. Trails are very deep with either sand or heavy dirt, well groomed but the map is sort of confusing and hard to follow My friend brought her GPS thank goodness. the camp sites are nice (minus the burrs) could really use electric and a pump that does not need a generator. You can pump by hand but it is very hard. Also getting into the park was not very clearly marked.

There from 9/29/06 - 10/1/06. We couldn't have asked for better fall weather!! There was a group of 21 women/girls that went. The fall colors were unbelievable. The trails were in excellent condition, VERY sandy. The trails for me weren't a challenge, it was great for what we were doing though - a large group of all levels of riders. The trails were for the most part wide enough that it allowed you to ride close to others and visit. The colors along were worth to trip. The campgrounds were too open for my taste, but again there was space in the center that allowed our large group to camp together. The tie posts were all in good shape and you allowed ones with panels to corral their horses, which we very much appreciated. Alot of sandburrs!!!! But Hey, without a few pitfalls, we don't appreciate the good things. The restrooms were very clean, plenty of picnic tables and burn pits. Many of us plan to come again.

The weather was cloudy and light rain, but the trails are great. Fun to ride in sand the whole time. Easy riding, but very relaxing.
