Park is beautiful with stunning panoramas. Trails are beautiful, intermediate difficulty with some rises and drops. Trail bridges are not horse-friendly, but can be worked around. Entrance to horse trails are not well marked, but trails themselves are. Beware of riding in the peak of summer - the temperature in the canyon in July was 120 degrees! Would be absolutely beautiful in spring or fall (but probably busier). Campsites are primitive - no designated spots, no trailer hookups. You can run your generator, though. Fire rings, picnic tables, pergolas available. Four shared pens that each house 2-3 horses - no shade. No gate latches. Water spigot. Bring your own hose. Go see "Texas!" the musical (at the amphitheater in the park). It runs all summer, and is amazing!

Stayed one night a Palo Duro last week. The men at the check in were very rude and did not know anything about the horse trials. The horse camp is just a parking lot with 4 large pipe corrals and is located at the very back of the park. The trails are shared with bikers and hikers. They are very dangerous for horses. Bikers fly over the little blind hills and is an accident waiting to happen. I do not recommend this state park to ride horses .Pretty place to see, but not to ride horses.
