Campground is remote and peaceful next to a shallow, wide river. Trails are long at the Bristol camp, but shorter trails are available at the beginning of Fires Creek. All are shaded and plenty of access to water along the way. Your horse must be in shape to ride for hours on end on the long trail. Out of shape horses should ride at the first campground of Fires Creek. One of my favorite places to ride!

Great campground, but NO horse-trail trail heads out of Bristol horse camp. Map we got off internet didn't help. Go right on road out of camp - trail about 1/2 mile down on right (looks like it starts off as an old road) leads to Rim trail. Another trail head further down on road (about 2 miles) Its easy to miss just watch for the little horse trail sign. Although we followed horse signs on the Rim Trail, later a ranger told us we weren't supposed to be on those trails - so I don't know if horses are actually allowed on Rim Trail now or not. Rim trail had some good long climbs (and a lot of rocks) but other than the climbs it wasn't difficult or treacherous.

This place is not for the faint of heart. Great riding if you like steep and narrow, with some terrific views. Not so good if you like wide and flat.

The campground is beautiful and on a river. There is water and toilets on site. The trails are very steep and some are very rocky. They are also very long. The shortest one was 6 hrs for our Fla. Qtr. horses. We loved this trail, it was real mountain riding and very steep, not for beginners. There are lots of shady roads to ride along the river that are ok for beginners.
