We absolutely love ELKINS CREEK.. The trails are awesome, scenery is amazing and Rick and Jill are awesome too. We haven't had any issues with ticks so far this year at Elkins Creek but we stay on the trails. I think ticks are a problem everywhere this year especially if you venture out in the tall grass. They have clean bathrooms, stalls for your horses, a TV room with microwave and lots of picnic tables and great trails.. What more could you ask for???

The trails were not well maintained, and it was difficult to find the entrance to the actual trail from the parking lot (can't remember which one we started from but there was no camping at it). I would not choose this over Hocking Hills in the future. The scenery is not nearly so spectacular and the difficulty is similar.

Trails are muddy and in very, very poor condition. Don't stress your horse to these trails as there are much better places to ride in the state of Ohio. Too pricy as well with annual season pass $45.00 with day passes costing $12.00 (apparently these monies do not go to maintaining their trails). Horse camp is free but primitive with lots of vehicle traffic of non riders frequenting going in and out of the camp alnight long. Trails are marked fairly well but a bit confusing at trail intersections. Terrain moderate with a few areas of steep climbs.

Great news! There has been alot of work done on the trails. There is still some spots that need some repair. There is also a new full service camp in the works. The plans are for it to be open in 2010.

Beautiful horse camp! Mature pine forest or open meadows. Highlines provided. Primitive camp with outhouse provided. Some trails were excellent condition, others need work. Hilly but the trails we rode had switchbacks on the steep portions. Several loops possible at Paddle Creek camp from 3-14 miles.

The hills of southern Ohio are beautiful. The trails here go thew open fields, young forests and mature forests. The new district ranger has made several improvments to the trails. Some of the trails do get muddy when it rains. The camp is at the paddle creek trail head. It does have a new pit towlet which they do keep clean. The camp has no designated sites. Water in the creek most of the summer. Several tie stalls and picket lines are in good condition. There is also a new full service camp coming in late 2009.
