We had an awesome trip! Trails were great and the prairie was in full bloom, all the rain this spring really paid off with the flowers. Almost no bugs...did use Mosquito Halt each day just in case. Used our electric pen around the picket lines, nice. Only wish all sites were electric. Nice to have a dump station near by and free too! Definitely will go again and will book earlier this time. Was great for my beginner husband and also our daughter too! We put on 30 miles.

The trails at Wild River are great for gaiting and moving out - they are wide, sandy well groomed and relatively flat

We've been to this park a few times now and we always like it. There is not a lot of challenge to the trails, but it's a nice place to go when you have "non-horse" people along because there is fishing and canoeing in the St. Croix River and bike trails. We've had a dry Spring this year and when we rode the long trail along the River, we were able to ride our horses into the River and wade. This would not be advisable when the river is normal, but on a hot day, as low as the River was, that was nice. There are some nice trails in the prairie with some pretty views. It does seem like the best spots are only for hikers and bikers, but that is the way with many of the State Parks. Don't forget your trail tag, we were checked more than once! Firewood is available at the camp office, but buy it along the road on the way in...you get a lot more wood for your money.
