Oh, Thank you, Ann Marie! I am terrified of snakes and you just helped me decide whether or not to return to Red Oak..We have been twice and never seen a snake and my friends even went swimming! I loved the trails because for a day ride they were not very challanging, and very shady, which is a big plus in August. I would never camp there but I might ride there again knowing NOT to get off my horse! I did love the cutbacks, some friends not as hardy as us did take a shorcut back about halfway through.

Although there is only primative camp area, really primative, it is still a beautiful place. The trails run along Dale Hallow lake and the views are gorgeous. We have only been on day rides, but each time of the year we have been has been beautiful. Trails are easy, and there are cut backs if you decide you don't want to go all the way around. The road to get there is a bit rough, but no major problems. It is worth the trip.

Rode here with a group of 20. Trails that day were very difficult. Several trees down across trails. Alot of their trails are cut into the sides of hills so when a tree is across it you are going straight up or down to go around them. It was challenging even for some very well trained horses and riders. Down right scary for beginners. And they do have rattlesnakes there. We encountered one sunning itself in middle of trail after he had lunch approx 4 to 5 ft in length. So you need to keep on eye on the trail if your trail boss! But it is a great ride lovely places to have lunch on side of lake...but beware of black snakes we had one crawl right over someone! There was pineapple everywhere after she jumped up and fled!
