This was the first time up to Horseshoe Meadows and what a beatutiful place. The campsites are great (dry camp for rigs)water at horse corrals, hitching rail. As previously said only 1 corral per site w/hitching rail, picnic table, bear storage boxes, pole for hanging lantern & level tent area. The trails are beautiful & lakes gorgeous. We plan to go again this year but may have to wait until August due to high amt of snow that the sierras have gotten this year. I agree you MUST have your vehicle in top condition for the climb & descent. But WELL WORTH THE DRIVE!!!!

The directions to Horseshoe Meadows is confusing and suggests you drive to Bishop and that this is near Yosemite. It is just outside of Lone Pine near Mt. Whitney.

Great riding. Very good campsites. 10,000' elevation so summer time is a great time to go. Water crossings..of course. And, yes, Julie is correct. Hard climb up and make absolutely sure your brakes are in PERFECT condition for the decent down....do not assume. Have fun, it's well worth the drive.

The best riding and views! Cottonwood lakes is an easy ride and beautiful!!! One corral per campsite, Bring corral panels to split in half. No showers! Make sure your truck has a good engine, brakes and Transmission before attempting the LONG STEEP climb to and from the campground.
