Santa Rosa Beach is beautiful. Go enjoy it, but leave your horses at home. There are so many problems with this place, I don't know where to start. First, you have to wade knee deep,(out and back)about a mile through snake infested water to access the trail. We never went out when we didn't have a cotton mouth cross our path. Despite what the website says, there is only about 8 miles of trails open to horses. We used out gps, so we know. There is one very long trail that goes all the way to Panama City, but is for bikers/hikers only. The camp is a basic parking lot type deal, with no shade,or picnic tables. Campers are parked very close. Since it is in a swampy area, mosquito were a problem. The corrals weren't set up when we were there,so we had to use the barn. The horses being boarded let themselves into the barn at night, let our horses out, ate our feed, kicked our horses. It was a disaster! Every time we went riding, the barn help put the farm's horses in our stables and we came back with others horses eating our hay and messing up our stalls,no where to put our horses. I could go on and on, but let me just say we have been there 2 times, our first time and our last time. |
