they are now back to being overseen by a ranger and you can make reservations again and there is someone back in the main building to help you check in and give you keys to the stalls and all that. Campground also has a "volunteer" who is around to "help" if you have any questions. We had 6 girls between 10-13 and 3 adults and rented the cabin and enough stalls for all the horses for a week. They all knew how to ride but it was their first "overnight" and they had a blast. Trails were easy for them and the horses (no shoes really needed) We stayed all week and there was no one really around so that made it kind of nice for us (maybe a day rider or two or three) Ranger came in and checked once or twice on us during the week (kind of cranky) Stalls needed some cleaning before we put our horses in but nothing too bad. It took us a while to get all our stuff cleaned up and repacked when it was time to leave and the ranger crabbed at us for not being out by check out time (we were an hour or so past time- it takes longer than you think it will to get that many people's stuff together- especially kids) however, there was NO ONE at the camp sites waiting to take our cabin or the other two cabins so I didn't think it was as big a deal as he was making it out to be. but I guess he most likely is overworked as I think there is only one ranger now! Anyway, don't be afraid to try it out, especially if you were worried about it becoming an outdoor recreation area (as it was briefly). Everything is fine now. Lovely park, and especially good if you are new at camping with your horses! The stalls are secure and the trailer camping and cabins are all very close by. There is a shower and a bathroom (there is only one bathroom to service the entire camp- I wish they had at least two or would put up a porta potty somewhere, it is not really enough to service the campground, but it is better than nothing and is kept relatively clean). I only gave the trails 3 stars just because they are not particularly challenging. They are pretty flat and the DOT (or whoever) has gone in and raped areas of the land for the lumber and left it kind of ravaged looking in places. It'll take years for it to heal. But is not like that everywhere, just certain areas, and they even had to close one section off due to that. Volunteers keep the trails in good shape otherwise.

Sad to say but a great camping place is changing. You will no longer be able to have reservation, but will be on a first come first serve basis. No security, closing down the Ranger station, will become an open camping park. Camping closed through winter months but horse trails will still be open. Park will be more like a WMA, will not be camping there anymore.

Had a great time at Watson Mill park this Fourth of July. Great place to camp and ride. Trails are easy and fun to ride with Deer everywhere. Good for young are old horses, carried one 23year old horse and 0ne 25 year old horse and they had no problems going on these trails.

Camp here several times every year and next trip already booked. Barns are wonderful, camp always clean, only wish bigger bath house. Good trails if looking for easy terrain but pretty rides.

One of our favorite places to camp and ride. Nice campground, plenty of room for large trailers. Stalls are big and roomy. Trails are so nicely maintained, very well marked. Great, easy ride.

Trails are great and impossible to get lost on. Barns are very nice and clean. Camp sites are nice. The only draw back is the one flush toilet and one shower for the camp ground, camping cabins that sleep 24,and day riders. That was the only draw back!! Still have plans to go back in spring.

This is a lovely place to camp and ride. The trails are through shady hardwood forest, well marked and are wide enough so that you don't smash your knees and with enough rolling hills to keep you interested. Also there is a nice spot with a picnic table and hitching post on the trail by the river to tie up and have lunch. The barns are some of the nicest I have seen anywhere. Campsites are wooded and have a pinic table and fire ring. Manuevering is a little tight getting in and out of the park with a large rig (ours is 40') but not impossible. The instructions for getting into the park are a little confusing. Just be sure to turn at the sign and go over the railroad tracks. Also call the park directly to find out about barn and stall location and your campsite before you call the reservation phone number. The reservation # is to someone in Maryland who has never been there. We told them the size of our trailers and asked for two sites together, they gave us buddy sites that we wouldn't have even been able to open our door if we had parked together there. Also they had 3 of our horses in one barn and 1 in another by himself. The park staff straightened it all out, but we could have saved ourselves and them alot of trouble if we had ignored what the website said and called them directly, which is what they told us we should have done.

Beautiful trails and campground! Easy riding; shoes for horses unnecessary. Will visit again. Wish there were more miles of trail there.

Trails are nice and shaded. You can ride the whole park in about 4-5 hrs. Stalls are excellent. Campsites are very nice. Don't miss the swimming area next to the covered bridge. Bring good water shoes, the rocks are slippery but the view is gorgeous! Cool and refreshing. Kids will love sliding down the rocks. Bugs weren't bad at all. Make sure you follow the directions to get in with a trailer. You can't get over the bridge. Follow signs that say "Horse Trails". No signs to tell you where the campground or stables are.

trails are shady with short hill climbs. The park staff is always very friendly and appreciate your attendance. Rarely passed anyone on the trails. Camp and stalls were very nice

The trails are marked well and are very shady. Scenery is hills,river and lots of deer. There is a beautiful covered bridge and swimming area in the park,but you have to unhook to get there. Campground is also very shady with a very nice log bathhouse. We didn't put or need shoes on our Fla. horses.
