Russ forest is a great place to spend a half day. The trails are set up in a grid system (like crops) because the forest is part of MSU's forestry extension program. There are some curves but not many. There are very few bikers or hikers but when encountered they are kind and give space. The trial footing is firm and free of rocks and roots in most places(Watch for broken glass in the park though! parking area is free of debris). The parking area has recently been upgraded and is very spacious. It will easily fit big rigs. Just make sure you enter using the east entrance. Because there are many different trails that intertwine the forest makes a great place to play games such as hide and seek, tag, and scavenger hunts. I would highly recommend you check out Russ forest if you are looking for a easy ride.

Nice place to go for a short day ride, excellent for green horses. Most of the trails are very wide with good footing-- great for cantering! There is a place to take horses into the stream with good firm footing, and there are two bridges. The only drawback is that there's only about 2 hours of riding unless you go across the street through fields north towards Blue Stone Ridge. Also, parking is very limited.

Super place to ride young or inexperienced horses. Gets them into the big creek and over a nice bridge. Beautiful huge trees. Russ is operated by MSU. Parking is not for big rigs yet but they are builing a new parking lot to accomidate. I highly recommend coming down.

Nice trails, well marked, fun little ride for a day. Bugs are terrible in the summer months.
