Nice place to ride to condition your horse, great place as long as your horse is ok with bicycles and joggers, loved the bridges.

This trail is now a little over 10 miles from North side in Veto, Alabama to South end in Piney Chapel, Alabama. The city of Elkmont pretty much right in the middle. You can park at any of these 3 locations and there ARE bathroom facilities at each place. This trail is a GREAT place to gait along as it is flat. Great in the summer as most of it is shaded AND it is always high and dry (no mud to deal with in wet season). No hunting so can ride there during hunting season as well. Several bridges and a couple covered bridges, only watering spot is on the North side under one of the bridges. Challenges may not be hills but you could encounter bicycles (if your horse is not use to them) and folks walking, pushing strollers etc but most folks have been nice and considerate of of the horses. Note to barefoot horses - the small gravel used on this trail, at this time, is pretty much worked into the ground but it can still cause a bit of ouchiness for some horses. I would suggest booting your horse.

Update on this trail. They have indeed added about 2 1/2 - 3 miles on the southern most end of the trail. There's parking on both the north and south ends and the middle in the town of Elkmont. There are rest rooms at all three of these locations and it's shady in the summer. I simply love this trail even though a lot of my friends say it's WAY too tame for them ! To each his own !

Trails are very easy for a beginning rider. Safe for lady riders. I live very near this trail and ride on it often to break in green horses. I also can rent horses out to persons that want to ride this trail. Just email me at eawebb@ardmore.net if you would like to lease a horse for this trail.

great place to ride a gaited horse since you can pick a gait and ride it is owned by the city and the trail is crush and run gravel wide enough for a car to drive down with two covered bridges to cross but done rather easily on my 3 year old also water stops and rest stops for the new rider or those who wish to stop the trail is also very clean and shady i was also told by a local that it was being added on to with a little longer trail and bathrooms
