Our first trip to Cisco and Cottonwood Patch campground. Nice experience, overall. Friendly people. Campsites were ok. No elec/water and the two troughs that were supposed to be for horse watering had broken fixtures and were filled with stale, mosquito larvae infested water. The nearby creek was an acceptable water source. Clean vault toilets for campers. I would recommend shoes or boots for the trails. Some places were pretty rocky. Nice views and riding. That said, the drive in from the Georgia side was most unpleasant. There is a 7-8 mile road in to camp and it is only wide enough for one rig. We saw no pull-outs to use should a second rig be coming your way. The road up was gravelly, steep and winding with a couple of hairpin turns. The drop-offs on the passenger side were considerable. Our truck/trailer combo is almost 50 feet and I could not imagine what we would have done if we'd met another trailer. There'd be no way to back up safely. Trying to get a large rig into the Cottonwood entrance is no easy feat. My husband drives 18 wheelers for a living. He can get those things in places that roaches can't go! Still, even he was a hair away from dropping a tire off the entrance into a deep ditch. We chose to return by way of the Tennessee side. It is a little wider, for the most part, and just seemed less daunting. I know there are a lot of folks who trailer there all the time. But I feel safe in saying it is NOT for the faint-hearted. We'd love to go back, but only if we could be air-lifted in and out.

We love this campground and these trails and try to come at least once or twice every year. There are plenty of trails and they are all so different. Ride along the river one day - in the mountains the next day. Rice camp is my favorite trail - it is gorgeous and you cross about 16 creeks so never have to worry about water for the horses. Some of the trails can get long - we've gotten in after dark before - and a few spots where trails could be marked better. The camp is primitive but has water troughs for horses. We've been there when there wasn't room for one more single trailer (so beware of holidays) and we've been the only ones there. Camp is by a creek which you can cross about 1/4 mile from camp. Driving in can be a little scary in places for a timid/inexperienced driver - don't recommend going in after dark the first time you go.

I love riding in the Cohutta Mtns. The trails here are beautiful. There is everything from beginner to expert trails. I live about an hour away from the Cottonwood Patch and Iron Mtn trail. This is one of my favorite trails. But almost all the trails here are good.

Wonderful trails with absolutely beautiful scenery. There are lots of meadows along the river (Jack's River)with much opportunity for cantering/galloping, as well as the mountain trails this area is noted for. We were up there when the sunflowers were blooming and it was great - some flowers grew above our 15.2h Tenn Walker's head! The river is easy to cross,it is shallow and has a rocky bottom. All the trails are well marked and they seem to be adding/lenghtening some trails. We did a lot of exploring and found hours worth of riding just in the meadows and along the river where the terrain is mostly level. The campsites are great and always clean. The drive to the campground is along a dirt/gravel road - it's about 6 miles off the secondary road, is narrow, and takes a while to traverse, but it's worth it. Good parking for day riding as well. No cost for day riding. $8/night for camping.

This is one of the most beautiful rides in GA (and TN) as it crosses from state to state. There are trails that go along side the river and the campground is level with artisian wells for the horses. There is also a creek that runs along the campground. Toilets, but no hook-ups. Nice trees, and several different trails. Some of the trails are not for beginners. We were up there after the tornados and it was hard to traverse some of the trails due to trees being down. All in all though, one of my favorite places.
