I love this trail system- although there are "technically" only 12 miles of trails, there are dozens of side trails that aren't marked to explore, and if you hook up with a local in the know, it's possible to ride all the way into Juliette, GA, to the Whistle Stop Cafe, where the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was filmed. The folks at the Whistle Stop allow you to picket the horses out behind the cafe in the shade while you enjoy your lunch. It takes about 2 hours each way to ride to Juliette and back. If you stick with the marked trails, the Ocmulgee Bluffs trail takes you on a scenic ride along the Ocmulgee river, along the tops of bluffs above the river, and after about 6 miles, puts you out on a large gravel bar perfect for a picnic lunch and a swim with your horse. From the gravel bar, you can continue on all the way to Wise Creek, or you can turn around and go back to camp. The trails can be tough if it's rained recently, with lots of mud, but in dry conditions it's a nice trail system, suitable for intermediate or better riders- several steep gully and stream crossings, a bridge or two, and rides along a bluff trail can be challenging, I would not recommend attempting them as a complete beginner! If there has been recent heavy rain, I would not attempt these trails at all.

We like 1099. The campground is primitive but there is plenty of parking. The trails range from easy to most difficult and there are plenty of old trails left to explore. Excellent place to ride. Watch out for summer ticks though. No water is camp. No fee.

Really hard to find this place! Camp is very primitive, but shady and the picket lines are permently installed for your horses. There is no water so bring your own. Ok for lg trailers. The trail is well marked and runs along a river. This is good if you are traveling and need a place to stay in this area. I would not recommend this as a great vacation spot. I would stay there again if passing through or hurricane evac. spot. You can't beat the price..FREE!
