The trail is not shaded, so make sure you have a good hat and lots of water! The deer and horse flies were bad. Trails are well marked. Campground has no amenities, other than water for the horses. Pens are small, and not well maintained. Not planning on going back.

I have been ridding these trails for 10 years since I live a 20 min drive away. I do not recommend them for summer ridding as the water can be up to your horses belly, the mosquitoes are killer, and long stretches of trails lack adequate shade. For winter ridding the trails are wonderful. Good footing, wide, and miles upon miles of them. Like I said I have been ridding out there for 10 years and I can still find new places to explore. (This is not recommended until you are familiar with the trails!) Lots of connecting side spurts and fish and game trails will take you far south into the everglades. (The southern most trails lack shade). Plenty of opportunity to open your horse up for a run no matter what trail you are on but watch out for cap rock as some sections of the northern trails are riddled with it. Lots of diverse ecosystems to see out there.

I drove for 2 hours from Southwest Ranches which is about 30 minutes longer than I like. The roads to the park are not that nice. Some are in need of new pavement as they were pretty bouncy pulling my trailer so drive carefully. The campground area was nice and clean. The stalls are well built. The horse trails were very wide and well maintained. They could be marked better. I always ride with my GPS and I needed it to find my way back to camp. I only rode for the day but I did about 7 miles. This time of the year it was still cool in the morning until about noon. The trails were very dry. There is a nice hammock called Kirkland which is a nice destination for a day ride. I like Dupuis better but this was a nice change.

Belle Meade has many miles of trails. Possibly 20 or more depending what trails you take. Once you get into the forest the trails are shaded and beautiful. You will see turkey, deer, etc. During some of the months you will have lots of water to go through. It is a lot of fun. Good footing throughout the trails. Trails are in the process of being better marked but you can find your way around with a GPS easily. Campground has 19 small paddocks with water and plenty of room to camp. Use electric fence or tie out. Dogs must be kept on a leash.
