Haymeadow creek is a very pretty, shady campground and I LOVE riding the trail both directions from there. For my second week, I ride the Pine-Maarten, stay at Kenbuck cabins, and ride the trails around there. Makes for a GREAT two week horse trip in the fall. In the Winter/January, I just stay at Kenbuck and ride around there. If you haven't seen/ridden in the Hiawatha National Forest in the Winter, you are missing alot! :>

This is a north/south trail through the UP from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior. The trail is very well marked and is 40 miles with a campground at each end and one in the middle. The middle campground was the nicest with the northern most really just a place to park your trailer. The northern most campground has signs posted warning of bear; and this campground is very close to the road. I did not camp there and would not have felt comfortable camping there more due to the closeness of the road than the bear. The northern half of the trail feels more like wilderness riding. The trail is well maintained and should not be a problem for most trail riders of any level.
