I have camped here many times and enjoyed myself thouroughly. 4 12x12 pens at each site, very sturdy and clean. Main beef is with the central woater, no hose attachment and mush hold spigot on which is stiff. toilets clean. We all know how much water horses take. most sites will take my LQ 10 ft short wall 4 h. Most folks are friendly and quiet. Lots of opportunities for nice day rides 8-12 mi Occasionally strenuous. If you want to trailer, there are more trails around. We usually stay 4-5 days and enjoy the rides. They are good for conditioning or horses not in great shape, medium shape. Shoes rec. or boots, some trails can be very rocky. Pine beetles are moving in and the trees are 20-30% going, soon most will be gone if not all. Very enjoyable riding, I think. I stay here every other to every 3rd year. Good for young stock learning the ropes, creek crossing etc Some trails can be strenous for several miles then gets better. They have gotten better about hosts that are ok with horses, especially if you clean up after yourself like you are supposed to! No one likes to clean up other's messes... poop in the road included! dumpsters at sites for manuer. Getting pricy...

If we had ridden here first on our trip, I'm sure I would have given the trails higher than 3 stars, but we came here after riding Rocky Mountain National Park, and then the Flat Tops Wilderness. RMNP deserves 5 stars, while we'd give the Flat Tops 8 stars if we could! Anyway, we reserved campsites at Jack's Gulch and were very impressed with them. Level, well-cared for, roomy, just excellent primitive sites. The nonreservable sites were smaller and not nearly as wonderful, but still nice. The corrals for the horses were sturdy and in perfect shape. We had a Trails Illustrated map for the trails, and had no trouble with navigation. Trails were lovely, but not spectacular, with the only slightly difficult part the trail along the creek, and that was only due to footing in the rocks. Very nice camp hosts, helpful, but not horse people. We were there in late August, and had only one other campsite occupied for only one night. Pit toilet was clean, and there was one water spigot centrally located.

I would like to discuss my discord with this camping area, but first let me ay the sites were adequate and clean. the camp host at the RV camping area was great and very helpful. I met a very nice camp guest who works in the area. The trails had very little for view, mostly wooded and the lake meadow was small but nice and we road though a severe rain and electrical storm on the way back to camp. My problem started with the other camp guest. First of all a couple was camping next to us and had no horses and had some objection to my wife and I at the camp site since they were there hoping to enjoy themselves for a few days with no one in the camp area and when they left, arriving were five women from the Ft. Collins area as they arrived in camp area, they were yelling at the top of there lungs, hooping and howling. They saddled up and left yelling, hooping and howling. They returned three hours later yelling, hooping and howling. unsaddled and set up camp, two men came over to party and did they, all along these girls were yelling and howling. I came over and asked if they would mind if I ran my generator for 30 min. needing to charge my batteries. I did let the generator run for 40 min. as I stepped out of the camper to turn off the generator, low and behold one of the women met at the generator in the dark and yelled by god that's enough time and left. We moved out the next morning not wanting to ever return to this area of Colorado again. This area only has five sites first come, first serve, two site can be reserved. At this time I have a low opinion of the Ft. Collins area and Jacks Gulch.
