Other trail riders should know what happened at Ukarydee this past Memorial Day weekend. We saw two women head out of camp on their horses early Friday afternoon. Shortly after leaving, one of the women came galloping back in obvious distress! She told the older lady in charge of registration, that her friend had fallen off her horse, and was hurt bad! She said she'd already called 911! She said that a ambulance was on the way and told the lady doing the registering, that she had to keep the driveway cleared, so the ambulance and a fire truck, rescue team could get through, because EMT's had to be able to get back to where her friend was laying on the ground. We could not believe it when the older lady doing the registering said "My job is to register people as they came into this campground, so I can't do that!" The woman making the request for help, couldn't believe it either and she started yelling at the people lined up to register, asking them to "PLEASE MOVE OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY! AN AMBULANCE IS COMING AND THEY NEED TO GET THROUGH!!" Right away people fired up their trucks and pulled their trailers out of the way. Again she told the woman registering that she'd have to keep the driveway cleared! Then she ask if any one would follow her back to her injured friend, stay beside her, and not let her move, while she rode back to the registration area, to wait for the ambulance and lead it to back to her freind. Some one volunteered to go with her and stay with her friend. Shortly after they left, the woman came galloping back to camp again, and found more trucks blocking the driveway at the registration area. At this point every one could hear the ambulance's siren howling! Once again the woman on the horse screamed for every one to move their rigs out of the way because an ambulance was coming through!! The new people who had lined up to register had no idea what was going on. The woman doing the registering continued to ignored the emergency situation as it unfolded!! The same thing would have happened later on, when the fire rescue team arrived, if the woman on the horse had not stationed herself at the registration area, told people what was going on, and ask them to PLEASE CLEAR THE DRIVE! I heard later, that the ambulance took the woman's injured friend, to Adams-Friendship hospital. There they discovered her initial injuries (several broken ribs and a back broken in at least two places) were so severe they med.flighted her down to U.W.Madison Hospital! The actions(Or should I say inaction?) of this camp ground host was inexcusable! Shame, shame, shame on the campground management of Ukarydee!! |
