This is a great place to ride. I took a beginner rider out on opening day of deer season. Never had to worry about anything other then the abundant deer. Never encountered an unpleasant rider. The ride is easy and the water crossing very nice. This year it will be cheaper to get a pass then to pay every time I go.

I like this place for short day rides, the rangers have always been very nice. Takes about two 1/2 hours if you just meander along the trail. There are two water crossing, one creek crossing about 3 feet deep and 70 feet wide and a low water crossing, sometimes this is dry also ond bridge crossing abot 100 feet long Should one desirer, they can stop at the cabin hitch up there horses and have a picnic or just enjoy the history. This is a reat place to ride. IT's a round loop and one short out and back. Fall and spring is the best but one can ride here in winter especially during hunting season, summers are good but you will need plenty of fly spray. I personally, would like to see better trailer parking but thats just me.

These trails are very clear, and very wide, so you can ride and talk to your friends right next to you. There is a creek crossing, but once across the creek, it opens into a huge beautiful meadow!!! Very relaxing. Lots of places to stop and rest. The cost is $ 10.00 per trailer load. You need to stop and pay at the vistors center. The road to parking is easy it makes a loop, and there is plently of parking space. The trail makes a circle loop and brings you right back to the trailer. Maps are availble, but you can't easily get lost. You are close to Springfield and there are all kinds of restaurants for after your ride. Your horse doesn't even really need shoes, unless tender footed. The trails are kept up nice, and access is easy. I highly recomend this place, as it is a favorite with the locals. Watch out on some weekends they have civil war reinactments, and can be busy. Pull your horse up to the battlefield and watch a piece of our history!

Great trail for inexperienced riders or horses and for those with intermediate experience 2 easy water crossings and a large iron/wood bridge, joggers pushing baby strollers, and bycyclists near the main road make for great training. The trails are manacured through a good portion of the 7 mile loop and just a few easy little ups and and downs to keep things interesting. When you arrive go to the visitors center to pay your $5.00 ( one year pass is only 20.00) per person entry fee, pick up a map and get directions to parking. Bring a lunch and spend the day. Summer hours 8am to 8pm. Highly recommend for those 2 legged and four legged who have never trail rode and are looking for a park that lets you work up your confidence.
