It's the best place ever to ride. You have great trails and a great creek to play in if it is hot. We go several times a year. There are new bathrooms and showers.

I do a lot of traveling and I had a wonderful time at this campground! Rick Jr. and his wife Jenny were friendly and helpful and have a nice little place there. The trails were a challenge and were interesting. tons of wildlife. Nothing is really marked, but it is a state park-I don't think the campground has anything to do with that. the whole area seems to be very horse friendly as we were permitted to ride on several privatly owned sections. The camp has a nice clean showerhouse that is new. I forgot my shampoo and the owner's wife went and got some for me while I was on a ride! Downside is lack of shade if you are on the second electric line and they only have one water source at one end of the camp. Owners said that eventually there will be water at both ends. Creek was a bonus for cleaning and watering my horses. Drive there is not fun if you have to go around, and the route over the creek has a tight turn that would be very hard if you aren't ready. The other road is pretty rough. Great experience for the money. Very reasonable prices. You have to picket your horses or bring portable fencing. Very laid back atmosphere and will go back! Owners are wonderful! Rick remembers everyone by name and is very helpful! Campground is level and the new bathroom and shower house is very nice. Downside to the campground is lack of area for the horses. There are picket poles, but they are in the middle of a field with no shade. The treeline is available to tie horses, but the trees will not last long, they have been chewed on by too many horses. If the campground is not busy (we went during a weekend with an event) you could have a portable corral under trees. Trails are nice, but not marked well. They are currently working on new trails, and hopefully will get some marked. River is nice to splash in after a ride and to water your horse, as there is only one faucet in the campground. I will go back, but it's basically primitive camping with a shower house and some electric. Be sure to check to see that the low-water bridge is low enough to cross! The last few miles of driving are challenging, and would be impossible with a large trailer (there is another way, I've heard it is also long and difficult) Overall, nice people and pretty views, but lacking in places to keep horses.

Had a great time staying at Elk Valley Equine Camp this past weekend with some friends. Rick Bousefield Jr. was a great host. The camp sites with electric hook up were level, easy to get into with our rig and very clean and neat. Price was very reasonable for our weekend. We were able to set our portable corral under some large trees for the horses to have shade. The trails are great, the trail map helpful and river was wonderful. Husband's horse is a true water horse, laying down in the river and rolling over to get his back wet (with out his rider, this time) We had a great time and would recommend this camp ground to all. The campground is well cared for with lots of shade and easy access to the river to water your horse. Picketing in the primitive area is abundant and well shaded with mature trees. Several electrical hookups are conveniently located by the bathroom and shower house. The trails are great and abundant with the ability to take a short ride or a long day ride. There are easy to difficult trails however these are not marked and care should be taken with less experienced horses or riders. Wildlife is in abundance and deer are often seen on the trails. The Sugar Creek is beautiful and though it must be shared with canoers and swimmers, there are places where it is deep enough to swim your horse if you choose.
