We rode from the Kingsbury grade trailhead to Spooner Summit, it was beautiful scenery with nice footing (some areas good for trotting/gaiting) on the trails. There are some granite steps on the Kingsbury trail, but they are doable even with steel shoes. A nice wood bench is situated about in the middle of the 12 mile ride. The view from the bench is from one end of Lake Tahoe to the other. Absolutely gorgeous. You could park and ride an out and back from Spooner Summit. No horse water on the trail, so make sure you have some when you get back to your rig. Both horses drank 5-10 gals each. No camping available.
