We have camped at Pleasant Hill many times and it is one of my favorite places to ride. Lots of places to tie your horse on provided tie lines, water has been installed near the tie lines, and a manure bin is provided to keep your site clean. Tie lines are not directly close to many camp sites, but you can usually see your horse from where you are camped. There is a nice pavilion and also newer permanent bathroom (not flushes). But it is clean and well lit at night. There ARE shower facilities in other parts of the campground if you are desperate for a shower. There is an office area that has a small store for camping necessities and some snack type foods. Beautiful lake. There is a fee to camp here ($20/night). You can reserve your site in advance at travel.mwcd.org. There are many shorter well marked trails for day rides. And if you are really adventurous you can ride the white trail, cross the road, and hook up to Malabar trails. A ride from pleasant hill to Mt. Jeez gives you a beautiful scenic overlook, especially in the fall. This is a 6-8 hour round trip ride, but I highly recommend it. You can even tie off at tie lines provided by Malabar Farm Inn and Restaurant and eat lunch on the deck of an upscale restaurant. And don't worry, they are used to stinky horse people stopping off for a bite to eat :). Our horses have always been barefoot and they tolerate Pleasant Hill trails just fine. Malabar trails are a bit more rocky. |
