Lived here my whole life and just now rode the park trails. They are great! Miles of peace and quiet and beauty.Nice camp area too.

We stay at Stoney 1 & 2 in Allegany State Park regularly. There are only 2 cabins on the trail and priority is given to equestrian use. We take our horses, set-up a portable corral with a fencer where the horses can graze, and we have the whole trail for ourselves (and guests). There are also 4 tie-stalls. It is an idyllic spot! There are 2 riding trails adjacent to Stoney trail: both are very nice and of only moderate difficulty for the horses. I highly recommend exploring other trails in the park as well.

It is fairly rocky. My draft cross doesn't wear shoes and was a little ouchy but no major bruising. Tender feet need shoes or boots.

If you like wildlife this is the place to see it, from black bears to beaver, all of which is none threatening, just a wonderous experience. There is an unlimited amount of trials, but your horse needs to be in condition to haul up some of the hills. We are definitely going back!
