This is really a beautiful place. You cross water in every direction. The trails are easy to challenging. If a person prefers easy they'd could just ride the chert roads and still enjoy. The area has recently had some wind damage so it may take a little while to get things cleared. There is a private campground thats just an easy ride from a trailhead. The camp owner can give directions or guide yr group if available. Camp has power, water & a barn.

My husband and I love the trails at Laurel Hill WMA. We only live 19 miles from this "best kept secret" and have recommended it to our friends. We love the fact there is plenty of natural water along the trails for the horses to cool off in and drink. The trails are a little rough at times, but nothing that we haven't been able to conquer. We go back often. Have never used the campgrounds as we live close to Laurel Hill WMA.

As with all places you see online, marketing is beyond belief. The pictures make it look like a large wonderful place to stay and ride. It is an OK place. It has one small loop to camp and most of the sites are level. Not many trees at most sites and the picket lines are falling down and not usable. The barn stalls are made of chain link fencing which are not secured at the bottom. Watch out that you are not stalled next to a kicker or aggressive horse. It could be dangerous for your horse. The trail head is not at camp. You must ride down the road coming and going to get to the trail. One trail in and out. Loops are long so lots of backtracking. There are lots of creeks so there is always water for your horse.

I am by no means an expert but above the intermediate level and I found the trail great. Trails for all levels. I had a cabin rented but some of the group stayed in the campground and loved it. Looking forward to a return trip.

Laurel Hill Trail & Camp is a hidden treasure. Prices are very reasonable and Robert is making improvements every day. The riding at Laurel Hill is fairly easy to navigate and very pretty with lots of water and a trail around the lake. There is not enough trails to make a week long ride but plenty for a weekend trip. If you do not know your way around, Robert will gladly lead your group out at no extra cost. The campground hosts water/electric hookups, clean bathhouses and a newly built barn for your horse. We enjoyed the great hospitality and personal attention we received there and have added this campground as one of our regular stops.

We felt so fortunate to find this campground last weekend. We had even planned to return w/friends to camp for Labor Day weekend; however, we have just learned the trails have been closed to horseback riding for a squirrel hunt as of 09/01/2012. So, please be advised if you had plans to camp @ Mr. Dalton's campground this weekend that horseback riding will be restricted to only the forest roads due to the hunt beginning Saturday, 09/01/2012. Mr. Dalton is worried about the # of horse campers expected to arrive only to learn they cannot ride the designated horse trails within the forest. Call him for more info.

this is a fairly new campgroung in progress. it is great place to go. the management is great and care about what you have to say and always checks o the campers. bathrooms are clean, sites are good. the trails are all marked are all on the map. this campground and riding areas are great and highly recommended for all people. only thing is if you plan to take the long trails around the forest you must leave early in the am because it is a 10 hr ride. there is alot to see in these woods and it was a great ride for us
