Park is beautiful with stunning panoramas. Trails are beautiful, intermediate difficulty with some rises and drops. Trail bridges are not horse-friendly, but can be worked around. Entrance to horse trails are not well marked, but trails themselves are. Beware of riding in the peak of summer - the temperature in the canyon in July was 120 degrees! Would be absolutely beautiful in spring or fall (but probably busier).
Campsites are primitive - no designated spots, no trailer hookups. You can run your generator, though. Fire rings, picnic tables, pergolas available. Four shared pens that each house 2-3 horses - no shade. No gate latches. Water spigot. Bring your own hose.
Go see "Texas!" the musical (at the amphitheater in the park). It runs all summer, and is amazing! |
