We have camped at Battle park around 5 times. The last time after their so called improvements was not good. When the back country horsemen took care of the campground it was great. But now that the forest service takes care of it, we will not go back. The first come first serve rule is not good. We don't drive over 600 miles to be turned away, and since you can't make reservations, we just have to take our chance. When we stayed there last, the piles of horse manure were terrible. They were piled high and hadn't been cleaned up all summer. That made the flies terrible, in which we never had that problem before. The stalls needed more rock or whatever in them. When it would rain the horses were standing around in water because the stalls were not level by any means. It just amazed us that the campground was supposed to be so much better from the improvements and not having the back country horsemen taking care of it. But that wasn't the case, it was worse having the forest service take care of it. The riding was great as always, but the camping made the trip our last there. In which is sad because we really like riding there. |
