First time to Wrangler CG. Trails are beautiful! Campsites are large with picnic benches and fire pits/grills. Bath house was terrible. Standing water through out. Had exhaust fan but not working. Overflowing manure pits. People who had our site before us did not clean up after their horses. Between manure pit and dirty tie up area on our site, our campsite was infested with flies. We finally cleaned the site ourselves. Stalls in barn need to be leveled as urine puddles in spots. Need to bring your own shavings as it is not provided. Horses should be shoes. Weekend management left much to be desired. Arrived with reserved stalls for horses. One stall was "occupied." Went to office to see if we could use different stalls. No phone or Internet connection so had to.drive there.. We're told some one was moving that horse but given no options about moving our horses. Waited 30 min. and horse still there and darkness was coming. Went back to office where one guy was standing doing nothing and lady was looking at computer. Finally, manager (Gary?) showed up complaining about all the work he had to do that day helping people with water and electric hookups and now had to deal with this .... Said he would find horse's owner or move it himself. Never showed up at barn but owner did and said she had been told to put her horse there. Week day staff are much more helpful and organized. Place could really use some better management.

This was my husband's and my first horse camping experience together. We finally got him a horse and I picked the place because it was somewhere I had never been. He is a novice rider, and I'm experienced. It was only his 2nd time on his horse, and my gelding's 3rd overnight trip. They were great! The facilities were nice, although the bath houses could use some work! The showers were pretty sub par. Everything on the bench outside gets wet, they're cold (at least the women's), there's nowhere to put anything off the floor inside the shower, and they shut off often. Drainage was an issue, and the one handicap accessible shower in the bath house closest to my campsite didn't work. There also was no hand soap, or any method to dry your hands. I ended up purchasing a cheap bar of soap from the Outpost and leaving it in there. The trails were great for our first time out, but even with front shoes on our horses had issues on some of them. The rocks were large and hurt their feet even with them on. I didn't have that issue with only front shoes at Brown County, IN. When we were on dirt parts of the trail they were fine. The loops closest to camp were great for beginners. The lakes are beautiful and there are other things to do very close by! As a note (since I couldn't find photos and called ahead)- they do not have hitching posts, but tether poles that you can also run a line between. It's either that, or get stalls.

Fantastic if cold weekend bit great way to ring in the new year. Highly recommended for any level rider. The team at the gate is helpful and facilities top notch. Camp spots are roomy and they just added more. You can reserve online and they hold some for drive in visitors which is great. They have cabins and you will find non horse riders there as well. I've met people from England there and all over the USA. Beautiful trails and we love it. Tether lines are free and stall pricing has been reduced after consideration. Well worth a visit and well marked trails.

Wrangler is the place i visit most as it is one that is closest to me. I like the roundpens they have now, do not like increase in price, but still affordable. I really hated that the restaurant on the grounds closed as that was very nice to have. The bathroom/showers need improving. Shower shuts off ever couple of seconds and you have to turn them back on and water is not warm, so you generally freeze when taking one, even in summer months. Trails are very nice and their are a variety, most times it is kept pretty clean.

First….. I have enjoyed riding and camping at Wranglers for over 20 years and the people that are working there now are TOP notch. However, in the process of making some reservations for this spring and summer I discovered that the prices for camping and stall rental have increased considerably, especially the stall prices… from $10 to $15 per night/per stall. I realize that the camping in Wranglers is difficult to beat and is mostly likely costly to maintain, so I understand the need to increase the cost per site. However, the increase in stall rental just seems extreme. I understand that stalls are a choice and I am merely expressing an opinion and passing along information.

We had an awesome time at LBL! Two wagons, we met plenty of great people. Pretty good campground, could use better water access closer to the camps.Restrooms and showers could be better, ladies showers didn't drain well and put in some fans. Really incredible trails, we thought it would be flat and kind of boring, NOT AT ALL! Great hills and grades. All around A+ Wagon Trails!

Nice campground, well thought out. Very friendly, helpful staff - a real plus for them! Sites are large, well spaced. Bathhouses are clean and nice. The stalls are a on the small side and the barn we stayed in could uses some maintenance, some loose boards and low spots under the side boards between stalls. On the plus side, stalls have mats, there is water at the barn and lights. Barns are well placed. High line poles available at campsites - some gravel would be nice and help with the mud there. I would like to see campers clean up better after themselves and thier horses - campgrounds like this are great to have and should be treated with respect! People just raked hay, manure and shavings out in front of the stalls and left it for somoene else to clean up, high line area at our site was a MESS. If everyone would clean up after themselves this place would really shine. We will be back.

Best campground I've ever been too. Clean showerhouse,Picket or stall, wash rack for horse, great prices for the amenities. Trails were not impressive. Riding at home(MI) is more scenic, the rocks were such that you couldn't move out even with shoes, and the trash was NOT just near the lake. I've never seen so much litter on a trail. Will be many years before we bother returning.

The campground was nice, the bathhouses were relatively clean. I didn't care for the showers - a button you press with a pre-set temperature water coming out. I literally wanted a cold/cool shower, but the water was a nice, warm temperature. Not what I wanted in August, lol! Picketing is allowed, but we prefer stalls for our horses - the stalls are airy, but quite small. They were something like 12' long, but maybe only 7' wide? My horses could barely turn around and they are not big. We arrived on Thursday and left on Friday - drove to another campground. The reason? The rocks! Long areas of beds of rocks from golf-ball sized to ostrich-egg sized, particularly on uphills or downhills. I would only be comfortable riding on that stuff if I had shoes all the way around with pads on. No areas for anything (IMO) faster than a walk, and we do like to trot a little here and there. Scenery was beautiful and we did see quite a lot of wildlife. The amount of trash (drink bottles, primarily) along the trails was astounding.

Wranglers is an awesome place to ride; the variety of trails will accomodate any level of rider....there are wide open trails...there are wagon trails...there are the "pig path" trails for the more experienced riders. Whatever you experience, whatever you may enjoy, Wranglers has it all! You can stay out an hour or you can stay gone all day. The trails are marked Ok..as long as you stay on the trail...if you venture off onto an unmarked trail, you can easily get lost. I wish the trail markers could get "revamped"...there are several markers that need to be replaced. .....But all in all....WRANGLERS IS MY CHOICE TO RIDE!!! Love staying down there!

We had a wonderful time at Wranglers. The weather was perfect. Because it was so early in the year, the place was not packed so we had plenty of room. The trails were very clean and marked well. This is a good place for the whole family to go and enjoy yourselves. We had young children with us and they really enjoyed themselves. Wished it was a little closer to home so we could go more often. The workers were pleasant and very helpful. I do suggest that you bring your own firewood if you want a fire to sit by when it is cool. The bundles you buy from the gatehouse do not last very long and it could get real expensive buying enough. The shower house was nice and clean and so were the bathrooms. The whole place was very clean and well taken care of. They also have places to shower your horse, we didn't use them though because it was too cool. After April 1, the Outpost Opens which gives you access to a store, resteraunt, ferrier, and so on. For the low price of staying there it is one nice place!!! We hope to go back soon!!!

It's strange how ppl have so many different opinions about places they ride! But ones opinion is just that..."their opinion". and we are all intitled to that. Wranglers is one of my favorite places to go..just for the fact that it is close to home and I just love to ride. Try riding over to KY lake and it's just gorgeous! The trails over there are rocky and some rough, but the view is breath taking. I guess as far as the bathhouses and campground goes...some just may not be adjusted to outdoors stuff. the water pressure does suck and sometimes you may not get hot water, but its a shower and its there for you. No place is perfect... It is dusty sometimes, but can't really help that if there is no rain for months. Guess I'm just partial to this place because its given me some great memories and more to come. I hope ppl can look past some small stuff and just enjoy what you can. Don't sweat the small stuff...it's good therapy for me! the rules are enforced..but if you don't say anything to the rangers about disturbance or things going on, how do you expect it to be handled? Tell someone if you are having trouble with neighbors or bad behavior! They will do something about it! Have a great day! Hope everyone goes for the New Years ride to the cabin...tons of fun.....:)

Camp sites were nice from what we could see, we had to go into the overflow, which suprised me as we arrived on a Thurs. Very dusty, hated the bath houses, guess they figure no one knows how to shut off water, had a preset button you had to push to get 2 minutes of luke warm water. Really didn't like the trails, very flat, dusty (I know it hadn't rained in a while) and extreamly rocky, fastest you could ride if you cared for your horse was a walk. Also nothing to look at, the lake ride was boring. I know folks love this place, I'm just glad we all like different things. Will not be back.

Campground was nice. Trails were great. We were told and read how strict they were on people, which is what we were expecting and wanting. But we did not experience this. We did encouter a problem or two. When we arrived, our coggins was not checked or ask for the stalls were nasty from whomever was there before us. Then we had neighbors that drank, were loud, language was extreme, rude, parked their trucks behind ours in our drive, shone their lights in our sleeping area at night, ran their generators all night. They had people going and coming till three in the morning. After saying something the first night the second night got worse. I had my five year old grandson and we ended up leaving a day early because of the behavior. If they are going to have rules, I really feel they should be enforced for the sake of those who chose this place because I thought it would be family geared. That was very very disappointing. I have been camping with horses all over for many many years and this luckily is the first experience I have had like this one.

This is our favorite place to go. They have rules to follow which makes for a pleasant experience. No loud partying, rowdy campers. Nicest place we've been. Staff friendly and helpful. Laundromat, showers, close to other things to see on a rainy day. Trails well-maintained. Excellent clean-up after ice storm. Scenery beautiful. Nice ride to lake, etc. Only complaint is they don't enforce cleaning stalls when you leave; it's in the rules, but we've only been once that we didn't have a mess to clean up. Been to other campgrounds with stalls and that has never been a problem with arriving with a clean stall. Would be nice to have more stalls built for people who stall their horses. This is the only complaint and/or suggestion.

I think this is one of the best campgrounds I have ever been to. It has everything, including a restaurant, and it is well maintained and comfortable. The staff members are extremely helpful and can answer any questions you have about the area. The trails range from easy to difficult and when we were there they were muddy from all the rain they had had. Also, there had been a lot of damage due to the winter ice storm, and they were still in the process of cleaning up the major damages. Considering all the damage, they had done a MARVELOUS job clearing the trails for use. Only two trails were not available for use. In addition, there are several interesting places to visit in the area when you are not riding. It is a great place to bring the entire family, even members that do not ride. The only negative thing I would have to say is not about the campground itself, but about the way some campers leave the stalls. Both times I have been there I have had to clean out the stalls before I put my horse in.

There is flat land to ride, well marked trails, mountains, one horse trails or road trails. What ever you choose to do for the day. There is also a drive through elk pen and a old home place to visit. And last but not least is you are only 27 miles from Patti's (Famous 2" pork chops) I'm ready to pack and go again... My family loved LBL Wrangler Camp - the trails offer a little of everything, hilly, flat, riverside and you can stay for several days and never ride the same trail twice. You have a choice of stalls or picket line and the camp is spacious. If you are looking for a 4 star motel and restaurant - wrong place, but if your focus is riding and enjoying the outdoors - right place. The only thing I don't like is the usual government BS: can't drink beer legally. But the staff is friendly.

We Love L.B.L. and Wrangler's Campground. We love it so much we drive 11 hours to get there from Erie, Pa. The only problem we have is that they don't reserve sites with Sewer, electric and water. We pull in with out 36 footer and stay for 10 days, we find it hard and impossible to unhook to empty the septic. I know you can reserve the sites along the road but they don't offer both water and electric do they? I have tried to book those a year in advance with no luck. The other sites are first come first serve and you all know out there: when you have driven that far and have horses on the trailer, you just want your site and stalls.

Wranglers has everything for everyone. They have primitive camping to full hook up. Bathhouses, resturant, horseshoing, stables, and picketing. The trails vary to wide or narrow, some over rolling hills and others up very big steep hills. Most of the riding is in the shade. Some places have nice dirt footing and others have alot of rocks. There is a lake to ride to and many places that have picketing and picnic tables for lunch. You can ride as long as you like or as short a trail as you like. One trail goes up to buffalo. It has well marked trails and then there are some that have been made that are not marked. Trails for wagons and narrow trails. Be sure to call before you go, there are certain times of the year, that camping will be very full or that it will be hunting season and there will not be many trails open to ride during hunting time. You will see a little bit of everything there. I love to go and ride the trails, but could stay entertained all day at the campground watching all the activity that goes on there. You see everything from tents to rigs all decorated. Really nice people and a nice family place. Everyone is very helpful there, I have never been when everyone was not as nice as they could be and did what they could to help you out, whatever your need.

I agree that it would be boring to just ride wide, perfectly groomed paths all the time...but it's only REAL trail riding if you spend hours and hours riding white knuckle? Come on, sounds more like you and the boys have some kind of ego thing going...and trail riding has just become a pi$$ing contest for you. Riders come in all shapes, sizes, skill levels, and temperments...as do their horses. How pompous of you to disparage someone just because they aren't an adrenaline junkie. Some people just love being with their horse, out in the woods, enjoying nature. If that's not your thing, that's fine, but why insult them? Have you ever considered the concept that of your way and their way neither one is BETTER...their just DIFFERENT. I hope you decide to relax a little and visit LBL so you can have an opinion based on the facts, instead of attitude.

Hey Becky from Louisville......It sounds like you really enjoyed your stay at wranglers..!! That's great! I just wanted to suggest something to you....next time you come visit, try to explore off of those gravel trails! They have improved alot of the trails to make it easier for the wagons! But there are some really good trails (one-horse-trails) off the beaten path!! These trails aren't numbered (some are)but they are great!! If you aren't sure about it and think you might get lost....then just ask someone to go with your group that knows the trails!!! Just a suggestion! But there are alot of trails to ride that might suit you better then the gravel trails...just get out there and explore!!! And enjoy yourself while you do it!!! But you are right...it is a great place to relax and enjoy nature!!! Hope you go back!!! Thanks!

We loved the campgrounds, it doesn't get better than that! However, the trails were all gravel and rock and pretty wide. We loved the scenery however the constaint sound of the hooves on the gravel got pretty old. Not alot of adventure on the trails. If your looking for a really good time relaxing this is the place to go, but the trails are alittle to maintained with all the gravel.

Wranglers is a great place to ride. The trails vary in degrees from steep to slightly rolling. It is where my son first started riding and he loves it. My wife ha sbecome a better rider on the more advanced trails. The only thing I would like to see changed is trails marked with mileage telling you the quickest way back to camp because sometimes you don't know how far camp is and it may be getting late, so would be nice to know which way to go and get back to camp before it is completly dark. OVERALL IT IS GREAT!!!

There are lots of wagon trails at wranglers, but there are also many small one horse trails too! Wranglers has anything you want....you can make your ride short or long...whatever you like! It bothers me when some are so quick to judge somewhere, yet they have never been there. You have to try new things sometimes. Everywhere is different. It is close to home and I absolutely love it! This is to anyone that has never been there.....please try it and ride with someone that has rode the trails....some are not marked! Those are good! If you have a wagon...perfect for you too! The lake is beautiful and there are other things in the area that are great to see. LBL is a great vacation place all together.....For the guy that doesn't think he will ever go there.....it really is your loss, cause you are missing out on a great place...think about it! I just like riding...it doesn't matter where I'm at! It's all good to me as long as I am on my horse! :-)

This is just a message to the genius that commented about Wranglers and had never been there......First of all, how do you judge something if you have NO clue what it is???? Second, where on earth did you get the "flat land theory"...??? If you had been there and actually "rode" the trails, you would know that the trails are not flat....I have been several places that are considered rough...rocky....dangerous...and I think that just because you are not hanging off the side of a cliff there is good riding at Wranglers...I think I would talk with other people that have rode the trails and not the roads....It is a beautiful place to go. The people are great..And you don't have to put your horse in a stall....although they are available to you, there are great ties to tie your horse...Yes the facilities are great and we are thankful for that. It has come a long way. So, if you are so quick to judge something you know nothing about, don't visit it at all. If you think about it....LBL....flat???? No.....not that I have ever seen! I am just sorry that you don't want to visit one of the best places to camp and ride......it is really your loss!!! We ride for many hours at a time and we never ride the same thing ever....It is never boring...but we don't think we have to hang off a cliff either to consider it a real trail or a great ride! I think I speak for many....I have been going there for years and I have rode many places....There is no other place that feels more like home and has everything you could ask for........Sorry, but you just rubbed me the wrong way!!

HAVEN'T BEEN THERE YET. PROBABLY WON'T GO. HAVE HEARD TOO MUCH SAID ABOUT THE FLAT LANDS. I HAVE TO HAVE INTERESTING TRAIL. A DOUBLE WIDE ROAD, EVEN THOUGH NOT GRAVEL OR BLACKTOP IS NOT TRAIL. I DESIRE NARROW, LEDGE AND CLIFF TRAIL. SOME OUT THERE ARE RIDING AND DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT TRAIL RIDING IS ALL ABOUT. THEY ARE AFRAID TO GET THEIR HORSE ON UNLEVEL GROUND. THEY PULL THE BIG RIGS AROUND, ALL FANCY, AND RIDE 2-3 HOURS A DAY, SIT AROUND THE CAMPGROUND AND TALK ABOUT ALL THE RIDING THEY DO. IT' A JOKE !! THE NICE FACILITIES ARE A PLUS, BUT WHEN YOU'RE NOT SPENDING HOURS AROUND THE CAMPGROUND, BUT ARE OUT ON HORSEBACK OUT ON TRAIL FOR 5-8 HOURS, WHEN YOU GET BACK TO CAMP, JUST A PLACE TO SIT DOWN FEELS GOOD. DON'T TAKE ALL THE FANCY STUFF. EVEN THE OL'HORSE IS GLAD TO JUST BE TIED TO A PICKET LINE, DON'T EVEN NEED THE STALL.

The largest campground I have ever seen with 220 sites. Over half the sites are in the sun. If you have never been there call the campground FIRST before you call the 1-800 #. We made reservations (without knowing our site was in the direct sun) and when we got there it cost us $35.00 to cancel them. The reserved sites are ALL in the sun. Then we got a nice site in the pine grove. The showers had water saver heads that didn't spray alot of water but they cleaned the shower house every morning. Several Rangers live on site and are constantly patrolling the entire campsite. The trails were all wide and very clean. They would be great for a green horse. p.s. watch out for skunks after dark - :)

Wranglers Campground is not a state owned facility. It is a federal facility operated by the USDA Forest Service. We are lucky to have such a nice facility here in western KY. The staff are striving to improve the facilities and the trails and are trying to find the right touch to meet needs of all users. The campground now takes reservations through recreation.gov. They now longer allow users to pop a tent to reserve their site because it eliminates the opportunity for others to use that particular site while it is unoccupied. Yes they make money, but government revenue doesn't always go back to the facility where it was generated. Improvements to government facilities take time and planning. So please be patient and keep sending your comments.

We have camped at Wrangler's for about seven years but quite for a year after the forest service took over and went to Ill. We started back last year and love it. our favorite weekend is new years becuase on New Year's day everyone rides to tenn to a cabin where the last person that lived in LBL lived till he died. They no longer allow tents and do take reservations for the large field in front but there is not much shade there. Will be expanding if this works out. This is where me and three of my grandchildren learn to ride and it's like coming home. If I could I would be buried there.

Out of all the places we have been, Wranglers is the best!! We have been to many other places and so far the camping and the trails don't even begin to compare to Wranglers...Now since you can reserve campsites out front, it makes it easier. We go there at least once a month or more. The bath houses and facilities are great. I would recommend it to anyone. If there is someone that is unhappy with Wranglers it must due to their own personal problems because, I can't see anyone not liking it. I know some have problems with the drinking rules. If people can't control themselves when they drink, then they don't need to come there anyway. I love it that it is about family and not a big party place!! I know it will only get better. Thanks for making all of our weekends feel like home....It is our second home!!

My husband and I have been fortunate to have been drawn for a "nine month lease" for the past four years. It is our second "home". The managers, resident staff, and restaurant personnel are the best you will find anywhere. Trails are safe and marked well enough for night riding. The campsites are advertised as first come first serve. However, they allow people to show up and put a pup tent on the spot of there choice and reserve it. Therfore, after more than a 4 hour drive, we were camped in the sun while several pup tents occupied shaded spots. We were at the campground for five days, and there were still shaded spots unoccupied when we left. However, we did enjoy the trails very much and would have enjoyed the campsite except for the full sun conditions.

They allow the local people to put a pup tent on the site of their choice and reserve it. We arrived on Monday before Memorial Day and all the shaded sites were taken, mostly by pup tents.

Wranglers is a great place to go, the camps are well taken care (park run by the National Forest service), the trails vary from 3mi loops to 15-20 mile all day treks, there is something there for the newest novice to the seasoned expert. Some of the trails run alongside the lakes and most have good water for horses (depending on time of year). March-May can be very muddy with spring rains and park staff may close the lower trails. Spring and Fall is great time that why it stays busy, sites are first come first served. My family travels 300 miles twice a year to stay a week at a time, even with some of the trails closed there is plenty of riding and we have never been disappointed.Even if it is pouring down rain we put our horses in the stalls and go experience the other activities that are at the park. Great learning opportunities for familes with children. We have been going for three years and find something new each time.
