I have ridden a lot of the trails in Michaux State Forest. I agree with other posts about The Big Flat parking area... If your horse is afraid of 4-wheelers/dirt bikes/side-by-sides this is not the place for you. This part of the forest is a shared area. However, the trails from Old Forge Rd and the Teaberry lot (aka: the upper lot) are perfect for riding. They can be challenging and rocky, so make sure you have your horses shod or bring boots for them to wear. I live within minutes of the trails and have easy access to them from my property. Best riding is in the summer when its hot. There is lots of folliage for shade. This is one of the nicest places to ride in South Central PA. You can pick up a map of all the available trails at the Caledonia State park office on Rt. 30. Camping is available in the Teaberry lot, but it is primitive with no water/sewage hook-ups.

I live nearby and ride here often. Teaberry lot is large and flat. Very nice for big rigs. Site is primitive no water, electric, or bathrooms. Nice hitching/picket posts available. Map and/or GPS highly recommended. Stick to marked trails. Even for a native it's easy to get lost here and end up in some spots both you and your horse don't need to be in. Shoes highly recommend, some very rocky areas. The trails and scenery are beautiful. Cool riding during hottest summer days due to heavy foilage. Nice run off, never had muddy, sloppy trails.

I unload at parking area on Old Forge Rd. Hardly any traffic. Although my horses don't mind ATV's and cars. Road the pipeline today. Awesome views !!!

This was a nice place to ride but the Forest Service office told us to stay at the Big Flat campground, which turned out to be marked for and used primarily by people with four wheelers. Most of the horse trails are about 15 miles from this camp so the next day we moved and rode out of, and stayed at the horse parking area the second night. What fun going someplace for the first time, eh? (especially if your horse, like mine, is scared to death of 4 wheelers)
