Our first trip to Cisco and Cottonwood Patch campground. Nice experience, overall. Friendly people. Campsites were ok. No elec/water and the two troughs that were supposed to be for horse watering had broken fixtures and were filled with stale, mosquito larvae infested water. The nearby creek was an acceptable water source. Clean vault toilets for campers. I would recommend shoes or boots for the trails. Some places were pretty rocky. Nice views and riding. That said, the drive in from the Georgia side was most unpleasant. There is a 7-8 mile road in to camp and it is only wide enough for one rig. We saw no pull-outs to use should a second rig be coming your way. The road up was gravelly, steep and winding with a couple of hairpin turns. The drop-offs on the passenger side were considerable. Our truck/trailer combo is almost 50 feet and I could not imagine what we would have done if we'd met another trailer. There'd be no way to back up safely. Trying to get a large rig into the Cottonwood entrance is no easy feat. My husband drives 18 wheelers for a living. He can get those things in places that roaches can't go! Still, even he was a hair away from dropping a tire off the entrance into a deep ditch. We chose to return by way of the Tennessee side. It is a little wider, for the most part, and just seemed less daunting. I know there are a lot of folks who trailer there all the time. But I feel safe in saying it is NOT for the faint-hearted. We'd love to go back, but only if we could be air-lifted in and out. |
