I/we ride there often and the trails are kept in nice condition and the trails are easy, good for beginners. There are a couple of bridges that take you across small water crossings. There is no "horse camping" allowed at this campground.

This was my first Ride to McIver park. I have ridden many trails and have seen all kinds of conditions. The Trail here is well maintained, and kept safe for all levels of riders. My horse enjoyed the relaxing ride and a good Workout. The was some mud but nothing you would loose a shoe in. The trails were conditioned well enough my horse was comfortable without shoes.

No way this trail is so easy to ride. Its perfect for beginers or to condition your horse. plus its a nice place to meet your friends to have an easy and relax ride.

I see this trail is marked as difficult. This is NOT a difficult trail. In fact it is a great trail for first timers and green horses. I ride this trail at least once a week. In fact, we take most green horses or first timers on this trail. They have also done alot to control the mud and they really maintain it well now.

Extensive trailer parking available, along with toilet (primitive). Parking area does fill up towards late morning on weekends. Very popular with trail riders. Trail is good for conditioning horses, with hills to navigate - but is not difficult, and should be suitable for beginners as well as expert. Trail is around seven miles long (depending on loop chosen), and IS shared with hikers as well as many other riders, so keep this in mind when galloping around those blind corners. :-) My horse and I complete the trail in a little over an hour, and usually do the trails twice before heading home. State Park day use permit required ($3 per day or annual pass). Campgrounds are available, but NOT for horses. During summer the park opens at 7:00am, closes at sunset. Park is located at 24101 S Entrance Rd, Estacada, OR 97023 - and is 25 miles SE of Portland. Further information call 503-630-7150.

Lower trails along the river can be wet & soggy in spots during the Spring. Well maintained trails, designated "equestrian only"...no sharing with bicycles, joggers, walkers, etc. Great place to ride!

Well maintained designated trails. No switchbacks. Beautiful wooded setting with lots of tall fir trees. Can stay up in the meadows or ride down into the canyon toward the river. Only one drawback; no access to water for horses along the trail. Big, open parking lot for rigs & corrals for horses. I'd been riding for only 3 months before this adventure, fortunately horse was experienced! Well worth the ride, even for a beginner.
