If we had ridden here first on our trip, I'm sure I would have given the trails higher than 3 stars, but we came here after riding Rocky Mountain National Park, and then the Flat Tops Wilderness. RMNP deserves 5 stars, while we'd give the Flat Tops 8 stars if we could!
Anyway, we reserved campsites at Jack's Gulch and were very impressed with them. Level, well-cared for, roomy, just excellent primitive sites. The nonreservable sites were smaller and not nearly as wonderful, but still nice. The corrals for the horses were sturdy and in perfect shape.
We had a Trails Illustrated map for the trails, and had no trouble with navigation. Trails were lovely, but not spectacular, with the only slightly difficult part the trail along the creek, and that was only due to footing in the rocks.
Very nice camp hosts, helpful, but not horse people. We were there in late August, and had only one other campsite occupied for only one night. Pit toilet was clean, and there was one water spigot centrally located. |
