This was our first time to this park. We were a little hesitant after reading the other reviews on this site, but 2009 wasn't a very buggy year with the drought, so we went for it. I'm glad we did. The trails are very pretty. Our big disappointment is that, though the DNR site lists nearly 30 miles of trails, only half are accessible from the campground....well, unless you want to take a long ride alongside a busy highway...the ranger said that we could trailer to that trailhead but she eyed my goosneck and said I would have a hard time fitting in the parking area...)my trailer is only a 3 horse with a small living quarters) The 15 or so miles of well marked trails kept us busy for a weekend. We didn't see any bears. The campground is a parking lot. There is one long picket line to tie your horses on... our horses don't care if they are tied next to strangers, but some horses might...all in all I think this park is worth a visit. We might not go back anytime soon (just because we've been there, done that) but it is worth checking out. Don't forget to climb the fire tower, the view is spectacular... |
