Trails in this area are wonderful, beautiful scenery with many lakes. Elevations from 7000 to over 10,000 feet with many long rides of 17 miles. Trails are very rocky in many places and are not for beginners. Shod mules or horses a must. The Agnew meadow horse camp was destroyed in 2011 by a big wind storm. The Forest service is start rebuilding in a new location in 2014. May be open again in late 2015 with 8 sites, water and restrooms. Future corrals will be built too.

Out of this world riding. Ride by the Devil's Postpile. Very cool. Mosquitos very bad. Horses had huge whelps, even after a bottle of Pyrahna. Lots of hikers.

Great trail riding and the horse camp sites are beautiful. The only drawback is that it is terribly dusty, more so than any campground I've ever stayed at.

The first campsite near the bathrooms is where the water is located. The rest of the campsites require a long hose or a long walk. Few campers and no horse campers all week. I suggest you ride the high trails on the PCT and stay out of the canyons unless you have a good horse and like lots of rock climbing. You drive by the PCT trail access about 1/2 mile before you get to the horse camp. There are a couple of good loop rides north on the PCT that will take you to some lakes and you will be able to look down into the canyon I metion a couple of thousand feet below. The trails end at about the same place. Lots of water for drinking even in late July and early August. Amazing but the cell worked in most of the areas but spotty in the campsite.

Not recommended for long, high or wide trailers or campers. Tight turns into the camp sites and small campsites. Remote and be advised of BEARS. Use the food lockers! Trails are good but some only for the experienced. Scenery is well worth the trouble. E-mail me if you desire any more information.
