Trails are challenging, good friendly campers,a local water hauler has 300 gallon tank with 12 volt pump for rent, makes camping a lot easier in dry weather

I highly recommend that you experience this horse park at least once, and after you do, it will be your favorite place to ride. yes, the camp is primative, and the bathrooms are yet to be desired. although, the Ross County OHC has been doing alot of work on the camp this year. They have added (3) new high line ties and intend to add more as the money will allow. they have mended and added new triangler tie ups. usually there is plenty of water in the creeks to water your horses and there is only (1) water spicket pump in the middle section to get water for your horses. which really is not at all bad to carry to your horses. the trails have been worked on throughout this summer and are pretty well marked. There are some very steep up and down hills but nothing that taking your time will not conquer. I have ridden these trails for years and they do nothing but get better every year, thanks to those from the OHC who keep this camp up and running. cant wait to get back there next year.

Campground: is primimtive. There are around 45 camp spots on a first come first serve basis. Camping is free which causes this place to be very busy. There are three sections. From what I hear: The middle section is the lively group, they like to party. The area to the right is a bit quieter. The area to the left is called the swamp, just seems to stay wetter. Most sites are pretty flat and big. Only 3 sites have high lines. The other sites just have the triangular tie posts which can get very muddy and boggy. No picnic tables, most sites have fire rings available. There are three sets of pit toliets that did have toliet paper. Only one water spiggit pump for the horse water, so bring a water caddy and large bucket. Trails: I only road for 5 hours on one day. I found that due to the road riding, shoes are needed. The hills we encountered had the larger rocks but our horses would have been ok barefoot with that. They would have not done well with the road riding. Trails were in great condition. There are some steeper long hills. We had to stop a few times to get up and down a few of the hills. If you drive from 23 to 50 to 327 to Poes run road........... Just before you hit 327 there is a nice big gas station with small minimart for extra items. Also a nice small 24/7 family donut shoppe that had really good donuts. We decided we didnt want to cook breakfast sooo we ran over there, I would say it was no more than 5 miles from camp.

I love this place! The scenery is beautiful, and the people are freindly. Your horse does need to be in good condition as the trail are steep in places, the trails are marked well and theres plenty of water for your horse on the trails.

Several improvements have been made to the trails this summer. Most have been widened by a small dozer. All trails are well marked. The camp does sit in a valley which requires you to ride up and back down some short steep grades, but the trails outside of camp are very nice to ride. The camp is primative, no electric, no shower facilities, but well kept and pretty with ample shade at most camp sites.

This is good riding if you like to go straight up and down. The trails are narrow and poorly marked, some closed, some open. Maps are confusing and folks get lost. Take a good GPS unit and be prepared to get your horse hurt.

The riding at Tar Hollow is difficult due to very hilly terrain and some rocky patches. the footing is good in most spots. The scenery is pretty but perhaps a little repetitious. It's deep forest riding so you don't see lakes, distant hills, etc. The campground has large sites but finding a site can be difficult because it is a local favorite. It's first come first served and the camp can be at capacity on weekends.
