After recent rains the North loop was in very good condition. There were a few muddy spots but they were not bad. This trail is 6 miles with some ups and downs. We did not stay the campground. It has water available, no electric.

Trails were not marked very well - did not match with the maps - some of the pole markers were knocked down making it difficult. Trails were VERY muddy in several places - on the trail off Old Rt. 50 and further in you could see where the flooding has been. But the trails were beautiful and there were even rest areas along the way. We stayed at Lazy H Cabins down the road on Old Rt. 50 and they were heaven! Bathrooms and air conditioning and stalls for the horses!! We will return to ride the trails again!!

Went riding there in May and early June. The trails on the south side where bad.Trees downed, there is an area just before the overlook. The lake washed up drift wood and trash all over the trails there. The local OHC chapter will need help with cleanup. Mother Nature is unforgiven.

Paint creek is awesome... the trails are well marked. they range from very easy to more challenging. many rest areas within the trails. water spickets for the horses and campers. and I will say the volunteers work hard to keep it nice. they deserve a hand. I have rode all over from hocking hills to ceasars creek in wilmington. You know this is a great place to ride when the parking lot is even full on the week days. Go Hillsboro..

Paint Creek is not extensive in length, however it is very well maintained and a pleasant ride for novice through expert riders. There is a variety of terrain that wraps around the lake through some medium size valleys and a lot of young forests and pine groves. There are a couple of creek crossings that are really tranquil to ride through. There is really not much to get into trouble with young horses and/or riders. One creek crossing has a fairly difficult crossing and hill climb, but it is clearly marked and offers an alternative route that is much easier. This is probably not a place that you will want to ride over and over, but it is an excellent place to visit occasionally. There are even a few places along the loop trails where they have built hitching posts and benches for short breaks. I just visited there on October 30, 2009 with my two sons. One of my sons is 5 years old and the other is 7. Don't let the ages fool you, they are good riders. However this was their first visit to Paint Creek and they handled everything very well. We did the South Loop Trail and rode around 10 miles. Had a great time and built a lot of confidence in my young riders. If you live in southwestern Ohio, Paint Creek is definitely worth the drive when compared to East Fork or Caesar's Creek...

This is a nice park for a day ride. The parking area and horseman's campground are one in the same, though day-riders park on one side of the lot while campers park on the other side. We just hauled in for the day, so I can't comment on camping facilities. In my opinion, there really isn't enough length of trail at the park to make it worth camping there. Eighteen miles can easily be done in one day, and the scenery isn't magnificent enough to make it worth riding over and over. There are some pretty views of the lake at a few points in the trail, and a couple of creek crossings with rocky walls on each side. The trails themselves were in good shape, considering there were a couple of ice storms over the winter that knocked down some branches. It did require some ducking-under and hopping-over in a few places, but not bad enough to make the trails impassable. The footing was good in both the flat areas and on hills, with just a few muddy patches (to be expected in early spring). I would recommend this park as a day-ride place. Or, at most, a day-ride and one-night camping spot before moving on to another park.

I've been to Paint Creek twice, and both rides were great. The loops are nice and easy marked to follow. There were some steep descents being on a goofy horse, but otherwise not a problem.
