First off, let get it out, this is where my wife and I have our two horses. It is also where my sister has two of her horses.
As of this writing this is a new location for Bear Creek Stables. The lease ran out on the previous location and we had to move. We moved from a 30 acre site to the current site which has currently mapped 12 miles of trails on a 450 acre property. Most of us stabling with Bear Creek Stables are down to earth people and not Horse Snobs, so this was a GREAT MOVE for us!
The trails were primarily developed by a friend of the property owner who does competitive endurance riding, so maybe that gives you a hint at the quality of the trails, maybe not. Overall the trails trails are not for beginners, horse or human.
What makes these trails a bit challenging is the many stream crossings that you encounter. The crossings are not easy in/out situations. Some you must slide down gullies and get back out again. My wife's horse slides, backs up, and will eventually slide with too much momentum that he has no choice but to cross. My neice's Arabian's goal is to never get his feet muddy or wet, so he jumps over. There is one stream crossing that everyone in our group of 11, except for two people, had to get off their horse to get it across the stream. I was one of the nine while my wife was one of the two who stayed on. However, on a second try on another day, it was just my wife and I and my horse crossed without hesitation. It also didn't look as bad the second time around.
There are a couple trails that have no stream crossings at all, but they do offer a nice hill to go down or up.
All and all these trails are a lot of fun. There are still some that need to be mapped and there is plenty of room to expand the trails. There are a couple fields that allow you to open up your horse, though you are asked to keep your horse at the edge of the fields.
There is also a large arena available with barrels. The arena is the first priority as the surface needs work and we will be putting a good fence around it. The old Bear Creak Stables location had obstacle course will eventually be developed at the new location.
All in all, I think this is a great place for experienced riders looking to have a great time or to further your horses skills on the trails. All rides are by appointment only so visit the their website for further information. You can go on your own or pay a little extra for a guide.
