Large grassy sites, large (12x12)stalls, clean bathhouse, common area, pool. All around VERY nice campground facilities. Good trail access. There is a $2 fee to use the Goethe State Park - well worth it. Self serve pay the post station as you enter. Trails are varied, some wide, some single file. Mostly flat & sandy. Some boggy areas with roots, nothing dangerous. Campground has daily, weekly and monthly rates, park model and cabin for rent. Dog friendly camp, leash rule enforced. No dogs in rental units belonging to camp. I recommend, with or without horses.

Lovely park, well maintained trails. New campground, primitive only. 5 Level, pull thru sites, each with picnic table and fire ring. High lines or portable corrals permitted.
Trail maps are accurate, trails well marked and easy riding. Trails arranged in several loops that allow for plenty of riding. A bargain at $13 a night. |

Customer service is #1 at TW, the owners work hard and it shows. Big rig friendly, easy in and out. Big, airy barns with safe stalls, saddle racks and bridle hooks at each stall, wide aisles for tacking up. Wash racks with overhead booms so horses won't step on or get tangled in hoses. Nice, grassy campsites. Not much shade, but on the plus side you can easily get satellites for Dish or DirecTV! Water, electric and some sewer sites, dump station. There is a rental cabin a camper and rooms for those that do not have LQ trailers. Clean bath houses, big common area with wifi hotspot and TV. Store for shopping. Free shavings, plenty of wheelbarrows and manure forks. Round pen. BSF trails are not far, ride private trails as well. great spot for riders who like to ride all day. Very nice maps. The owners go above and beyond to make everyone welcome and are always available to answer questions or help the campers. Professionally run camp, great ambassadors for the area! |

I hope that anyone considering camping in BSF will give True West a look. Let me begin by saying that we have stayed in the area several times in the past 4 years, but not at TW. However, we have stopped in and took a tour; we were impressed by the owners and the attitude that they have in person and on social media sites that I frequent. Always professional, welcoming and helpful to anyone, including non campers. This will always work in their favor! Other camp owners could take a lesson from Donna. |

Mountwood Park Horsemans Camp, near Parkersburg, WV

We used Moutwood as an overnight stop. Did not ride the trails, however, people that we met while there gave them good marks. Campsites are on asphalt, only one water hydrant, so no water at sites. Community electric hookup. We have an RV, towing the horse trailer, the sites were not deep enough to accomodate our rig - but since there were some empty sites, we parked across them instead of backing in.If you have a large LQ trailer, you will need to unhook your truck. There are new stalls being constructed in another part of the campground, these sites look like each one will have an electrical hook up - not sure about water. Bathhouse is up a hill, did not use it, so cannot comment. Covered stalls are airy/open, "gates" are not on hinges, can prove a little challenging if you are putting your horse in alone.Stalls are safe, you may want to bring something to tie them in place just to be sure no one gets curious and wanders off in the night. New stalls look like a bit of an upgrade. Entrance road to the campground is uphill and a bit on the narrow side, and there is one uphill hairpin turn on the way into the park.Overall, a nice place, not plush but very adequate. Owners are very nice, gave good directions, pricing is a little high for not having water/elect at each site. |
