Wind Creek State Park, near Alexander City, AL

Trails meander through the forest, winding around, up and down hills, but not too strenuous. I would recommend shoes or boots as some of the trails can be rocky. Many of the trails are single track and all are beautiful. Some border the lake and there is a couple of trails that lead down to the lake. The campground has electric and water. I like to park near trees and highline my horse. There are some spots with no trees, so you will need to bring either a hi-tie or portable corrals. Each site has rocks for a fire ring and the trails go right from the campground. Across the street is the bath house. Clean. When entering the park, you need to have paperwork ready along with your tag number (I always forget and have to go back to the truck to write it down). Getting in and out of the camp is easy, even with the biggest rig. Camp spots range in size, but I've never had a problem with my 37' trailer. Easy in and out. Dump station in the RV portion of the park. All in all, a nice place to camp and ride.

Bear Branch Horse Resort, near Eddyville, IL

Coming into Bear Branch, the driveway could use a bit of work. Was not impressed to begin with, especially since the campsite that was reserved for us had someone in it. We were put in another site, which was actually better, in my opinion. Shady, comfortable with e/w/s. We had reserved the 100x100 corral to keep the horses in. This is an electric rope corral with 3 strands of rope. The electricity didn't work on it, but the horses respected the rope and stayed in. It was on a slope with weeds, but at least the horses weren't cooped up in stalls. The trails were great! It was an easy ride down the driveway and across the highway to lots of miles of trails, or you could cut through woods to the Hayes Canyon side with many more trail miles there. The hosts at Bear Branch are new, have only had the camp for 2 years and are working hard at improving it. Nice tack store with essential supplies. Also hay for sale. I actually like Bear Branch better than Hayes. At Hayes, it seemed like we were piled on top of one another. Since we have a lq trailer, we didn't make use of the bathhouses, so can't comment on those. All in all, I would recommend Bear Branch.

Crows Creek Campground, near Smithville, MO

Crow's Creek is a hidden gem of a park! Clean, big sites, we had no trouble backing our big rig into one. Barn is nice and airy with big stalls for the horses. Trails range from groomed to single track, easy trails that went through woods, crossed streams, and many in big, open areas. Plenty of room to graze your horse. Shower houses are clean with plenty of stalls. We thoroughly enjoyed this very relaxing park and will be back!

HQH /Hobelman Quarter HOrses Overnight Stables and Campground, near Big Springs, NE

We stayed overnight here, but won't do it again. I had reserved a "paddock" at $25.00 per horse, thinking it would be at least a half acre at that price. Nope, a pen just big enough for 2 horses not to get in each other's way, full sun, and terrible flies. We basically camped in a yard, there is no campground. We were able to hook up to electricity, but you can't hook water up to the trailer. There was just enough leaky hose to fill our water tank. This place is really run down. There is no manure dump, no wheelbarrows for the manure, you have to use your own bucket and rake, then take the manure down to a corn field to dump it. There is a reason there are no pictures of this place on the website. It our next stop weren't so far, I'd pack up and leave. $70.00 for 1 site (if you can call it that) and 2 horses should, you'd think would give you a premier campground. I've paid less than that for first rate accommodations. Bypass this place!
