We went on vacation with our mules at Mammoth Cave Horse Camp and had a wonderful week. The leaves were turning, so every trail was beautiful. All trails were well maintained and well marked. Good maps are available at the camp, which came in handy even though we always ride out with a GPS. They offer a service to trailer out to various trail heads, so we got to ride on most every trail in the park. The stalls were roomy and clean, with saddle storage area, hydrants, and wash racks. There is a large sand arena available. The highlight of camping here, though, was the attention to customer service by the owner and all of the staff. We have been to many states and a lot of different camp grounds, but this was the best we have ever experienced, no doubt. The camp sites are clean, spacious and level, and are easy to get into. The bathhouse is terrific, with a great hot shower. Very clean! There is a camp store with some basics, and also a fabulous dining hall which has large sliding doors all around to adjust for the weather and temperature. The nights were cool in October, so there was always a roaring fire in the big stone fireplace. We did an event ride, so there was a meal package of 3 meals a day that was better than my cooking, which didn't hurt my feelings at all - so glad husband was happy and well fed! The cost was a good value. Entertainment every night of some sort, camp fires, plus the nicest folks were there. We already reserved for next year and look forward to making this one of our regular riding destinations. |

We camped with our mules for the first time at Elkins Creek this past weekend and plan to return lots! The campground was nice, the owners the friendliest and most accommodating ever, clean camp, nice covered stalls, great tack shop, farrier service, fun trail challenge course in the arena, and more. The adjacent trails in the Wayne National Forest were so well maintained and there were a variety of terrain choices: cave areas, hills under nice tree cover, and a great rest area with high lines on the Paddle Creek Loop. We didn't feel shoes were needed for our mules. Friendly folks and very reasonable cost. |
