My friend and I just got back from a week of camping at High Knob campground. Our overall experience was a ten. There were so many amenities available to us. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked, being able to have a hot shower makes a world of difference in your day! We were both pleasantly surprised that there were coin operated washers and dryers and detergent was available in the general store. Our horses were very comfortable in their large covered stalls, it was nice to be able to let them relax after a long day on the trail. The general store has almost everything you could need, new and used tack, shirts, toiletries and other items that are invaluable on a long camping trip.
Now for our experience.
When we checked in we were met by Rhonda, a super nice lady who is a regular at High Knob. Rhonda met us at the door of the office and immediately we felt at home. She was bubbly and happy and checked us in quickly and walked us over to the barns to put our horses up after their long trailer ride. Then she pointed to the front camp ground and told us to settle in anywhere we liked. We weren't sure about how to level our trailer and she gave us a leveling block and told us if we needed help to let her know. We picked a great spot and set up camp. While we were setting up JoJo popped over to introduce herself. JoJo is amazing! She is so happy and energetic and full of information, she immediately set us at ease. For our entire stay, JoJo was accommodating and checked in on us to make sure we were having a good time and that we were making it back to camp safely each day. I felt like she was my second mom! Anything we needed she was there. Our first day out on the trails our regular fly spray failed us and our horses were COVERED in ticks, I am talking hundreds. JoJo mixed us up some wonderfully effective spray and gave it to us at no charge. Everyday we would head up to the office for her recommendation on where we should ride that day, she would hand draw us some maps and take us out for a ride on her ranger or in her van to show us the tricky road crossings. I can't even begin to express how thankful I am that we chose High Knob for our girl getaway. JoJo made us feel comfortable and secure and knowing that she was looking out for us and cared, relieved every bit of anxiety we had about being so far from home. When we left I felt like I was leaving family behind. I can't wait to get back to High Knob for the atmosphere and the breathtaking beauty of the Shawnee National Forest. |
