Shawnee National Forest - High Knob Camp, near Equality, IL

I would put ZERO STARS for the campground if I could. This owner is unorganized, scatterbrained and rude. She spent at least 20 minutes telling us everything negative about her husband and how she would do away with him if she thought she could get away with it! It was very clear that first time visitors were treated differently than her regulars. I understand the importance of customer loyalty and taking care of your returning customers but how do you expect to get repeat customers if you ignore them on their first visit and tell them they didn't make their reservation properly??? I will say the trails from the campground are the best we have ridden in that area that is why I give 5 stars for the trails. The campground itself it okay, the stalls are new and in good condition, the permanent tie lines at the sites are a plus. Lack of shade is an issue for some people but even that would not have cause me to downgrade the rating of the site. The entire reason for the low rating of the site is the owner.

True West Campground, Stables and Mercantile in BSF, near Jamestown, TN

We finally made a trip to True West Campground and it will not be our last. Brittany did a great job running the campground while her parents had to be out of town for a funeral. We were checked in and given great trail map along with several detailed printed directions for different trails, this was a great feature! The trails were well marked and in good condition. The campground itself is in wonderful condition and all the facilities are very clean. The mercantile is well stocked and reasonably priced. To be totally honest, we were hesitant about having to tack up our horses at the barn. We have always brought our horses to our campsite and tacked up there...let's face it that is easy and convenient for dealing with tack, but tacking up at the barn proved to be okay. The hallway of the barn is very wide and each stall has a saddle rack in front. We will be going back to True West again as soon as possible. Don't let a little change in your normal routine, lack tacking up in the barn instead of at your trailer, keep you from visiting this wonderful campground.
