Shawnee National Forest - High Knob Camp, near Equality, IL

I visited instead of riding to High knob to see if I wanted to camp there. The Owner was running up and down the road on a ATV fast and would not merge for others taking up the whole road so we had to pull over. Dust was everywhere and flying and she didn't care about campers eating the dust or riders horses spooking by going so fast. She did not speak, wave, or anything, just kept on going back and forth on the dusty road making more dust for the campers. There is an enormous amount of permanent campers with great spots, but for visitors your stuck out in the hot sun. JoJo was not friendly, and the look on her face was maddening. I drove in and out looking at all the campers and from just what I saw of the Owner JoJo I don't think I want to camp there at all. My friends stayed over the Labor day holiday and stated they were treated so badly they would not return there ever. My friends are very easy to get along with and if JoJo can't get along with them then I don't think I want to waste my time. I have trail rode over to High Knob and JoJo was not friendly and told my friend to take her shirt off due to it having another camp grounds name on it. Unless some attitude changes on the owners part I will never camp there.

True West Campground, Stables and Mercantile in BSF, near Jamestown, TN

True West Campground is awesome. When I pulled up and checked in they were at the barn waiting for me and my horses. They took my saddles, my tack, water buckets, feed bags and everything needed for me stay while there. I thought I had hit the lottery. They cleaned out the trailer while everything else was being placed in the appropriate place. Easy access for my horses and saddles and everything were right there with them. They even wrote my horses names on the stalls. I was treated with the most gracious hospitality I have ever had. Donna and Shawn the owners were so welcoming to their guests, not one guests but all guests. They visited the campsites in the evening and took time to sit and talk and be the best hosts I have ever seen. They have maps at your request and if you have difficulty they will talk you through it, and even come out as they did with me. The trails are different for each trail. Some levels are harder than others and it just depends on the trail. There are trails for longer rides or shorter rides and the owners are more than welcome to help you chose a trail for the length of time you want to ride. I will be returning to True West Campground as I have never been treated so welcomed as I was there. Their store has a variety of items to chose from, they even allowed us to borrow a tool to make extra notches in a girth free of charge. The barn was outstanding and a round pen for stretching or working your horse. The accommodations was the best I have ever encountered. I rate this campground a 5 Star as it is well worth trying one time to fully understand the care and hospitality the owners Donna and Shawn have shown me and my group. Must go to appreciate it.
