Well marked trails. Horses should have shoes or boots. Equestrian camping has everything you need, although not scenic. Stalls do not have roof. |

We've been here twice in the past two months. A local club has spent a lot of time clearing the trails from previous years tornado damage. Most of the trails are in very good shape now and everything is well marked. The trails are hilly but not super challenging. Suggest shoes or boots for your horse as some places are rocky. There's a section of the yellow trail where you can go through the lake if you like. The trails can be very muddy after heavy rains. There are enough trails that you need more than one weekend to ride them all. We had virtually no bugs in Apr/May. I'm told the yellow jackets can be bad in Aug/Sep.
The campground is easy to get in/out of, even for the biggest rigs. They are fairly level, but you'll need leveling boards on some sites. About half the campsites are along the woods. The rest are out in the open. Bathhouse across the street is clean but does not have showers. You can visit other bathhouses in the park if you need a shower or laundry. If you don't mind bringing your own corrals or high line, this place is great. It's quickly become one of our favorite places to visit. |

FDR State Park has beautiful camping sites. You have to drive to the stables each day. Keith and Tracey were wonderful hosts, although the barn facilities are a bit dated. No turnout area. Wash rack and roundpen would be nice to have. Trails are terrific--vary from rolling hills to rocky ascents. Horses definitely need shoes or boots. |
