When we arrived, owner showed only one trail,a maximum four hour ride from property. All other trails you have to trailor over some very rough,washboarded gravel/dirt/pothole/mud roads(most with nowhere to park your rig) I would not take my rig with LQ on. Have been on miles of gravel and back roads in 15 states with our rig but not recommending these.) OK for just an overnight,but it is expensive. Campsite was parking in driveway by BandB.Nice box stalls with turnout area for horses.Owner was friendly and helpful and will rent stock trailor,but not the place to be if you are a serious trail rider and don't want to trailor up these bad roads every day.There are too many awesome areas in Colo that you can camp at and ride right out to trails,less expensive and a lot easier on your rig |

I was told gravel road was good to lodge, RV sites and stalls for horses. Enough trails right out of there to ride a week. This road was 23 miles of rock,potholes, and took two hrs.WE were only trailor on it,only trucks and Suvs. Saddles and tack were on the floor and all clothes in closets on floor. Also lucky we only had ONE blowout. Horses stalls amounted to a one line cable pen in a trash area right with their horses. Trails were several miles up or down the road. ONe trail from lodge and one campsite we didnt see. Maybe great for fishing, but not horse rigs. I know people are traveling with bigger rigs and we all have a lot of money invested. Just please really check out a place before you take their word. Too many beautiful places we can get to on decent gravel/dirt roads and have a safe place for your horses.We all work too hard and invest too much money so we can trail ride to waste our vacation going somewhere we can't ride or enjoy.We have been down gravel and rough roads in 15 states to ride, but this is one not worth gettin on. We turned around and came back down two hours of the road again to go someplace else where we could ride!!! |

Can't say enough about this campground and the trail...they were super!!!Gene, the owner is awesome. He made sure we got settled in and got us a map of the trail and even highlighted some that were super for a shorter ride. It was a hot weekend..but campsites were in the shade...and the horses had stalls and were happy in them. Other campers were friendly and even rode with us on sunday to show us the trail.
Again...super place...super trail...super owner....We will be back Gene..see you i a few weeks. |

Awesome weekend!!! And yes..some trails are very, very, very muddy. The trail to the overlook was a challenge...but we all made it. Great campsites..can't wait to to again |

Cherokee Trails Campground provided a great base camp for our group of 7 to enjoy a full week of horseback riding the trails of Holston Mountain and service roads to Holston Lake, both part of the Cherokee National Forest. We also rode the Virginia Creeper Trail 2 days which was only 45 minutes from this campground. The campground host (Steve) was very friendly and went out of his way to accomodate the needs of our group. We rented both cabins and two full service campsites for those who had living quarter trailers. A full service bathhouse was located directly beside the cabins and across from the campsites. The barn and paddocks were in close proximity to the campground. Most of the stalls were 10x10 with only a couple being slightly larger. My preference would have been 12x12 stalls but our horses did fine. The trails were a mix of service roads which were great since we all had gaited horses. The mountain trail provided very beautiful views of the mountains, lake and you could even see the Bristol Motor Speedway in the distance. Holston Lake is breathtaking as the water is as blue as the Carribean. The mountain trails are not for novice riders on green horses as they are narrow in some places and require a surefooted, confident trail horse. Overall, I would recommend Cherokee Trails Campground for all who are interested in an affordable vacation with their favorite horse. |

The camping in the new campground was great. Bathhouse was great, very clean. The only problem we had was the mud. There was no way around the mud on the trails. Just part of the experence. The scenery was beautiful. There were waterfalls, caves and beautiful rock formations. The staff was great. Everything was clean. If we could just sprout wings and fly over the mud, it would have been a wonderful weekend. |

Had the opportunity to stay at True West with a few friends. We rented Marshall's Place. The lodging was clean and comfortable and the stable facility was also very nice and clean. The owner, Shawn and his daughter were very nice and hospitable. My friends and I already have plans to return before years end to explore more trails that we didn't get to ride. |

My daughter-in-law wanted a nice relaxing place to ride where we did not have to worry about the horses getting hurt. This was it! Nice trails,beautiful scenary, easy parking, and helpful people to give directions. We will definately be back! |

Nice campground. Had trouble with the locals on dirt bikes and ATV's. Tried to spook our horses intentionally!! Don't think I'll be back there to ride. |
