Flying-R-Ranch, near West Plains, MO

This place was built by the current owner who really put some thought into it beforehand. Terry Carroll and his staff are extremely nice and helpful. The campsites have electric, water, fire ring, and picnic table. Covered stall next to campsite and has water ,bedding and manure pile close . also has 4 really nice log cabins for rent that sleep about 12 each. There is a fun obstacle course, two round pens and lots of fun trails. You do need to understand how the trails are marked before going out. There is a river that you must cross to get to most of the trails. It is about chest deep on a 14-2H horse. I highly recommend Flying "R" Ranch. The place is very busy so check ahead if you want to go on a weekend.

Just returned from trail riding in Texas. Our stay a Caprock Canyon was great. The volunteers and rangers were extremely nice and helpful. The horse camp is primitive with excellent pipe corrals and water . Very nice. The trails are marked well with awesome scenery. Highly recommend this state park .

Palo Duro Canyon, near Canyon, Tx

Stayed one night a Palo Duro last week. The men at the check in were very rude and did not know anything about the horse trials. The horse camp is just a parking lot with 4 large pipe corrals and is located at the very back of the park. The trails are shared with bikers and hikers. They are very dangerous for horses. Bikers fly over the little blind hills and is an accident waiting to happen. I do not recommend this state park to ride horses .Pretty place to see, but not to ride horses.

Pole Canyon Ranch-the owners are as nice/helpful as them come. has a nice area to park your rig but it is a gravel parking lot. Has water and electric and a dump station. Corrals are located in front and back of your trailer. The trails are really good. Lots of riding and well marked. Shower/restrooms are very nice/clean as is the house that is available to rent. would recommend Pole Canyon Ranch. It is just 10 miles over to Caprock Canyon SP too.
