Great Smoky Mountain National Park-The Settlement at Thomas Divide, near Bryson City, NC

Our first stay at The Settlement and we will go back. We stayed in our LQ trailer and there are full hookups, though no dump station (5 miles down the road for $10). 6 sites and we were the only ones over a weekend and if all were being used it could be a bit snug in camp. 3 paddocks for guests and our horses were in new stalls very close to our trailer. 15 minute hack to the trailhead into the park. Excellent riding, many waterfalls, up and down though we would not term rigorous. Carol, the manager, was helpful and offered to ride out with us. We did not take her up on that due to timing and we found the trails very well marked.

Beautiful trails and vistas, as cited by all in their reviews. Interior of mansion a real disappointment, as none of it was kept "in the period" and is now full of trinket sales. We stayed in our LQ and were in the upper campsite, which seemed to be the better option vs the lower one. Each site in our area had full hook up and individual sewer dump. City water (translation:chlorine), which our horses are not used to but proved not to be an issue. We did not use the bath or shower facilities but walked through and they were "blah". Stalls likewise nothing special whatsoever and price did not include any initial bedding. Horses were a long way from us. The upper camp is right on the trailhead and the trails, as noted, are wide and with gradual slopes. However, hard packed and that gets old after while. Also old is the number of walkers (not blaming them for enjoying the walk and views) but makes it hard to get into a running walk and stay there! Close to Blowing Rock, which was nice. Highest point on our ride was 4,650; meaning, nice and cool while hot in western NC!

3rd time at BSF and 1st at True West. Went there due to ratings on this website and we were not disappointed. We have an LQ trailer and our stay was terrific. Excellent service, campground, trails, etc. Nice to have a store and have it open long hours. We will be back!
