Love the facility, but the footing has alot of rocks and can be very muddy and impassable in places. Won't be going again, my horse hates the rocks. Stone bruise's and absses's equal downtime and vet bills.

Nails Creek State Park, Lake Somerville TX, near Burton, TX

Second time at this park. My husband and I are new to "trail riding" as we generally have cows to pen, hunting, or some other task at hand when we saddle up to ride. Nails Creek is a great park for beginners, but if you are looking for great scenery or challenging riding, you may pass on this park. The bridge can be a booger, but it is passable. Rangers are friendly, campsites are clean, horse stalls are safe. They do advise two horses per pen, but we use 1 stall per horse for safety. Shoes for horses would be advised as there are rocky areas on the trail. The trail is singular. It is not a circle ride, and either you have to be picked up at the next park or you have to turn around and ride back through what you've already seen.
