Easy, well-maintained wide trail that follows the shore of the Sallisaw Creek section of the Robert S. Kerr Reservoir. Barefoot friendly. There are a few short steeper passages but nothing difficult. There is abundant wildlife. You may see deer, rabbits, armadillos, buzzards, pelicans and bald eagles. The trail is marked with white or red/white arrows on trees. There are short stretches of riding on old chat road until an arrow directs you back into the woods. The trail head is located by the big pond, to the right of it. This will get you started on trail (watch for arrows!). When you reach the main paved road (closed) cross it and continue on trail. You are welcome to ride across the land dam on the east side of the big pond but please avoid riding in the adjacent construction area.Fishing and hiking are permitted, boats and swimming in the pond are not. The park does not close but there may be bow hunters on site in the fall. NOTE: This is an updated entry for the formerly named “National Cherokee Nation Park.”
There is currently no camping allowed at this site.
