Trail Description Good trails that run along the Ocmulgee River. Mostly sand land, no shoes required for horses. Nice sandbar on the river for good picnic and swimming opportunies. There are several places along the trail for watering horses.

Times to Avoid
Campground Primitive camping with no water available at the campsite for horses or humans. There are telephone poles lying on their sides around the camping area to define a "no horse" zone. No horses area allowed within the poles. Horses must be picketed outside the poles. Bring your own rope and tree savers - do not tie horses to trees or risk being fined. There is no fee for camping or riding.

Directions From Madison, GA (off of I-20), take Hwy 83 south to Monticello. Stay on Hwy 83 south out of Monticello towards Forsyth. Travel approximately 12-1/2 miles. At mile marker #2, SLOW DOWN. Note: mile markers are on the LEFT side of the road. At the top of the hill, just before mile marker #1, take the gravel road on the right. There are two metal posts at the entrance but no sign. Go 1 mile and you will see a State Park sign on the left. Camping is on the left side of the road.
